Two shows imported from Europe, Pinoy Dream Academy (imported by ABS CBN from Netherlands) and Philippine Idol (imported by ABC 5 from England) will battle it out in search of the country’s most talented where the bar for talents is so high i might add. We all know about Philippine Idol and how it works. Having American Idol being shown here on the same day it is being shown in America (just a few hours difference) and having some Filipinos who get to penetrate the show every year (with Jasmine Trias the most successful so far by reaching Top 3), it’s part of the Filipino vocabulary already. But what about “Pinoy Dream Academy”?

Pinoy Dream Academy is from Endemol, the makers of the Big Brother franchise from Netherlands. The concept is similar to GMA’s “Starstruck” and of course, their own show “Big Brother.” It is basically a talent search wherein the contestants are housed in an academy. Different musical training will be held in the academy and will have a talent showdown on weekends when the elimination is going to take place.

But what talent show will be a hit to Filipino televiewers? Pinoys are familiar on both concepts except they’ve already have the “Idol” fever going on and Dream Academy is new to their ears. But channel 2’s advantage is their wider reach in their broadcast which is definitely a (capital P) PLUS factor if ratings are concerned. ABC 5 broadcasting signal is poor in the provinces so they need to rely on the PHENOMENON that is the idol fever where almost all of the countries who have a local idol show experienced historical and all-time high ratings! The brand “idol” will be put to a test in the Philippines. Will it be another phenomenal hit or it’s kind a little something like we’re just the only country where McDonalds isn’t the no. 1 fastfood chain?
