Superman Flies High on Opening but Spiderman Flew Higher

Superman Returns fell short of expectations by raking a “not bad” but mediocre opening of $21 million and way below of the biggest opening gross record which still belongs to Spiderman. Spiderman 2 grossed $40 million on its opening last summer of 2004. The $21 million opening gross is good only for no. 11 position, slightly behind no. 10 movie “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring”.
