‘Maging Sino Ka Man’ 1 1/2 hour Premiere & other TV series Strategies
October 7, 2006 by cd
There are some tv series gimmicks in Hollywood proven to be effective like a “live” season premiere which is done by Will and Grace on its first episode for its 8th season. The episode did well in the ratings. Here in the Philippines, we haven’t tried a “live” season premiere but a “live” season finale instead. It was first done with Robin Padilla and Judy Ann Santos’ “Kapag Kasama Kita” when it ended live and yesterday with Bituing Walang Ningning‘s live ending. Well not actually live, i heard it was done on a Thursday night and shown last night but at least it was concluded on a live audience. Gag show “Nuts Entertainment” has done the “live” thing, too performing their skits on a live studio audience.
Another tv series gimmick in hollywood is the double episode season premiere. I’m not sure if it was already tried here in the Philippines until last night’s 1 1/2 hour premiere of ABS CBN’s latest soap “Maging Sino Ka Man“. The soap stars some of today’s hottest actors like Sam Milby, Bea Alonzo, John Lloyd Cruz and Anne Curtis. It’a almost a double episode because usually or soap airs one hour a day on weekdays (including commercials) where it used to consume only 30 minutes before. 45 minutes is a safe bet, since commercials make these tv programs work, so it’s also safe to say that last night’s premiere episode was also a double episode for Maging Sino Ka Man. And what a way to end the week than to introduce a new series to the people after the original slot owner, Bituing Walang Ningning, concluded on the same night.
Will it work? We’re about to see.
