Happy Feet Beats James Bond at the Box Office

The dancing penguins were triumphant in last weekend's boxoffice gross beating double 0 seven's newest installment. The animated tale Happy Feet earned $42.3 million during its first 3 days of release USA and Canada while James Bond movie Casino Royale pulled in a $ 40.6 million.


Happy Feet was directed by Babe producer George Miller with a $100 cost shared by Warner Brothers and Aussie’s Village Roadshow Ltd. With Australian director at the helm, the film features voices from Aussie stars, too like Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman and the late “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin.

Happy Feet is expected to retain the lead come thanksgiving season when families watch movies together.

Casino Royale’s performance was down considerably from the $47 million weekend gross of previous Bond movie Die Another Day.

After two weeks at no. 1, Borat fell to no. 3 at $14.4. It ha earned a more than expected $90.5 million to date. Borat is now on the running for the highest grossing independent movie of 2006. Previous title holders were My Big Fat Greek Wedding and The Blair Witch Project.
