Kubrador Wins in Rome Filmfest

Kubrador (The Bet Collector) has won it's 9th international filmfest award, this time the Special Jury Prize at the Seventh Asiatica Filmmediale in Rome competition for Best Asian Feature Film. Joji Alonzo (producer) said Kubrador placed second in the entire competition. Jeffrey Jeturian's Kubrador has the following awards so far: 2 Fiprescis (critics award), 2 Best Picture awards -- one from New Delhi filmfest and the other from Cinemanila and 3 Best Actress awards for Gina Pareno.

Other winners in the Rome Filmfest are Mainline (Best Film) from Iran directed by Rakhshan Bani Etermad; The Island of Rebirth (Audience Award) from Kazakhstan directed by Rustem Abdrashev.

In the Best Documentary division, the winners are: Buddha’s Lost Children (Best Documentary) from the Netherlands, directed by Mark Verkek; Special Mention: Total Denial, from Bulgaria/Italy directed by Maurizio Borriello and Indonesian Cinema directed by Milena Kaneva.

Kubrador is scheduled to compete in 15 other film festivals abroad next year. It is now the frontrunner in the local award-giving bodies and a possible grand slam for Gina Pareno in the Best Actress category.
