American Idol – Top 10 Guys Step It Up
February 28, 2007 by cd · Comments Off

The top 10 guys stepped up their game this week to keep up with the girls’ outstanding output last week. My favorite performances were delivered by the 2 Chrises, 1 Blake and 1 AJ. I really like AJ’s performance and his song choices but he’s a little underrated by the judges. They know he’s good but they’re hesistant to give the absolute praise that he deserves. I agree with what Michael Slezak said on EW.com:
In fact, the only singers tonight who looked like serious contenders to me were my three favorites from last week: A.J. Tabaldo, Chris Sligh, and Blake Lewis. Now, in the back of my brain, there’s a nagging little voice (which sounds suspiciously like Simon’s) telling me A.J. might not make the final 12, but I think that would be a real injustice. His exuberant, jazzy spin on Nina Simone’s ”Feeling Good” made him the evening’s only convincing crooner, but for some reason, the judges seemed hesitant to show him any love; it’s almost as if Paula, Simon, and Randy decided back in Hollywood week that they were putting A.J. into the top 24 as mere cannon fodder and they can’t quite accept the fact he’s a legitimate contender.
After watching the top 10 guys perform for the second time on video, here’s my take:

AJ Tabaldo – Feeling Good
February 28, 2007 by cd · 4 Comments

22 years old A.J. Tabaldo sang “Feeling Good†dedicated to his mom and his dad. AJ received grand slam reviews and i couldn’t agree more with the judges. But he’s the underdog among the guys although he’s one of the best. AJ’s a sweet soul. Please vote for him!!! He and Blake are my faves!
Randy Jackson said “It was so much better than last week.†Paula Abdul said “I love seeing the change and you expanding in different areas.†Simon Cowell said “I have to say that was actually nearly very good.â€

Sundance Head – Mustang Sally
February 28, 2007 by cd · Comments Off

Sundance Head sang “Mustang Sally†dedicated to his son. Although i still find his style a little old fashioned, he definitely improved a lot this time. And i have this feeling that he’s gonna escape the eliminations again because he has gained enough exposure from the auditions episodes.
Randy Jackson said “Welcome back, Sundance.†Paula Abdul said “I didn’t know you had range like that.†Simon Cowell said “I’m glad that we’ve got the Sundance back that we really, really like.â€

Blake Lewis – Virtual Insanity

Blake Lewis sang Jamiroquoia’s (darn, can’t spell that right) “Virtual Insanity†dedicated to his parents. Blake seems to be the most prepared, the most clever, the most determined among the guys. His style, his strategies and his song choices are just plain perfect so far. He’s the guy to beat. If he maintains this vibe, he could be the only guy who might make it to the Top 3.
Randy Jackson said “I like you, man.†Paula Abdul said “You’re smart with this, you’re making smart choices.†Simon Cowell said “Other than the middle section of the song, I actually didn’t see any originally from you this time. I actually saw a copycat performance.â€

Brandon Rogers – Time After Time
February 28, 2007 by cd · 2 Comments

Brandon Rogers sang “Time After Time†dedicated to his grandma. The judges thought it was a mediocre performance but Simon believes he’s got it but it’s not coming out yet.
Randy Jackson said “It was kind of boring for me actually.†Paula Abdul said “I felt your heart, you don’t have to over sing.†Simon Cowell said “You have got to come out here Brandon when you’re as talented as you are and do what four or five of these girls did last week and make a wow impact.â€

Chris Richardson – Geek in the Pink
February 28, 2007 by cd · 33 Comments

Chris Richardson sang “Geek In The Pink†dedicated to his grandma. It was a surprise, really, the Justin Timberlake quality of his voice has finally came out with this performance. A lot lot better than last week. On Friday (Thursday in the US), i’m sure he’s safe!

Nick Pedro – You Give Me Fever
February 28, 2007 by cd · Comments Off

Nick Pedro sang “You Give Me Fever†dedicated to his girlfriend. Simon hit him with the charisma issue but he thinks Nick’s good. And i think this is his best performance. The smoky quality of his voice is perfect for the song.
Randy Jackson said “It was kind of nice, dude.†Paula Abdul said “I love the tone of your voice.†Simon Cowell said “I thought it was good. I think that when you’re going to attempt to pull a song like that off it’s as much about charisma, and I felt you lacked charisma on it.â€

Sanjaya Malakar – Stepping Out
February 28, 2007 by cd · 3 Comments

Sanjaya Malakar sang “Stepping Out†dedicated to his grandpa. If there’s any consolation, he’s better this week. I just don’t understand why the judges didn’t like him. Hope it’s not a racial thingy.
Randy Jackson said “It was like a bad high school talent show.†Paula Abdul said “I think it would be great to pick songs that celebrate your youth.†Simon Cowell said “It was like some ghastly lunch, where after lunch your parents have asked the children to dress up and sing.â€
