GMA 7 versus ABS-CBN TV Ratings (AGB Nielsen)

The battle for audience share continues as GMA 7 and ABS-CBN introduced new programs and new stars. The most interesting point to consider is the controversy over Angel Locsin’s transfer to ABS-CBN and will it cause significant changes in tv ratings specially for this month? Napilayan nga ba ang GMA 7 sa ratings after Angel Locsin transfered to ABS-CBN? Let’s find out.
Showbiz Central VS The Buzz
On August 12, The Buzz aired the first ever interview of Angel Locsin after the actress arrived from London and signed a two-year exclusive contract with ABS-CBN. Tinapatan ito ng isang tv-special ng GMA introducing their newest stars via Showbiz Central. The Buzz registered a remarkable 19.2% against Showbiz Central’s 10.4%. The week before (Aug. 5), maliit lang ang lamang ng The Buzz, 12.4% against SC’s 10.5%. Although walang significant change sa ratings ng Showbiz Central, meaning they didn’t lose significant amount of viewers, The Buzz on the other hand has gained 6.8% of viewers which is a strong indication na marami talagang nahatak ang kontrobesiya tungkol kay Angel Locsin.

That’s My Doc VS Ful Haus
ABS-CBN introduced a new comedy sitcom entitled “That’s My Doc” starring Aga Muhlach on July 29, 2007 (Sunday) para ipantapat sa Daddy Di Do Du ni Vic Sotto. The premiere episode of That’s My Doc was only able to match Daddy Di Do Du’s rating - parehong 14.8%!
After a week, GMA reformatted Vic Sotto’s Daddy Di Do Du to Ful Haus starring Bosing’s real life GF Pia Guanio. And the result? Tinambakan ng Ful Haus ang bagong show na That’s My Doc with 6.3% difference. Fulhaus registered 18.3% while That’s My Doc registered a lower rating of 12% (more than 2% lower than their premiere).
Marimar Awwww!
Last August 13 is the series premiere of the much-anticipated local version of Marimar and 13 proved to be a lucky day for Marian Rivera, “GMA’s next big star”, as Marimar received 36.6%, the highest rating of the day, against Deal of No Deal’s 26.5%. Marimar maintained a 9-10% lead over Deal or No Deal on Tuesday-34%; Wednesday-36.9; and Thursday-34.9%. I think it’s also safe to assume that Marimar is the program who received the highest viewership for the whole week. But can they maintain the momentum this week?
Reality Competitions Still Reign
Reality shows still served as viewers-magnet as the premiere episodes of Be Bench: The Model Search, Ride to Fame: Yes to Your Dreams, U Can Dance and Celebrity Duets all topped their time blocks. But U Can Dance started to lose some grounds when GMA 7 put Nuts Entertainment on Saturday nights starting July 28. And last Aug. 11, Nuts Entertainment totally trampled U Can Dance with 14.4% : 9.7% respectively.

The Battle of Showbiz Oriented Shows
With ABS CBN’s newest showbiz-oriented show hosted by Bianca Gonzales, Mariel Rodriguez and Toni Gonzaga on the block on Saturday afternoons, i thought GMA’s Startalk will start to decline. The premiere episode of Entertainment Live! two Saturdays ago registered 15.5% against Startalk’s 13.7%. But last Saturday, August 11, Startalk trampled Entertainment Live! with 19.6% ratings against 11% of the latter. Tignan natin kung nakabawi pa ang Entertainment Live! last August 18 dahil kung hindi, baka maagang ma-reformat ang bagong showbiz talk show. Showbiz Central, on the other hand, is no match against The Buzz.
Kokey is Now Leading
And by the way, Last Wednesday and Thursday, naungusan ng Kokey ang Mga Mata ni Anghelita. But will it continue?
Next month, Angel Locsin’s first tv program with ABS CBN co-starring her with Piolo Pascual will start airing. Dun pa lang natin talaga malalaman kung sulit nga ba ang pagkuha ng ABS CBN sa kanya. For now, it’s safe to assume na may mga nagawa na si Angel Locsin upang pag-ibayuhin ang mga programa ng ABS CBN. Ang ebidensya - ang pagtaas ng ratings ng The Buzz specially the episode showcasing her very first interview bilang kapamilya.

hi good day sa lahat… ang gusto ko ang sabihin ay iwasan na nilang awayin si angel locsin ..marian wala ka namang magagawa nauna si angel sayo pasalamat ka nga umalis sya dahil saka kapa nakita nang staff ng gma at tsaka kahit kailan hindi mo mapapantayan si angel.. maganda ka nga pero kahit aso ay hindii makain ang ugali mo nagayon sana matauhan ka!!!!!!!!!!

ako i realy hate watching abs, kasi masyadong cornik ang dating tulad lang ng wawawi and ingay puro tili, tapos pilit nila pinapaiyak contestant to get attention, kawawa na nga mga tao lalo pa kina kawawa, pilit open yong buhay nila. tayong dalawa masyado pinipilit sa publik kahit na di nagrarate masabi lang na rated ito di kasi nila matangap. ang dame show abs kung sa pagkain nakakaumay na.

ABS-CBN Primetime Bida shows continue their winning streak. May Bukas Pa led all primetime programs with 40.5%, followed by Angel Locsin’s Only You with 38%. Tayong Dalawa came in third with 34.6%. This is followed by TV Patrol World (35.2%), Boys Over Flowers (28.6%), Pinoy Bingo Night (18.5%) and SNN (12.9%).

Nielsen being questioned in the US for ratings inaccuracy
In an effort to refute the claims of ABS-CBN and TNS that the previous emerged as the new ratings leader in Mega Manila, GMA Network released its statement with opposite figures from AGB Nielsen Media Research.
GMA, said in an article on its news website, that AGB Nielsen is the country’s most preferred ratings provider with over 19 companies in subscription. It also said that AGB Nielsen is the more trusted name in the ratings industry.
Nielsen is also the ratings provider in the US, while TNS serviced the United Kingdom, beating AGB Nielsen in a bid to provide TV ratings in the said European country. While TNS finds stability on its service in UK, Nielsen is facing some scrutiny in the US after reports of inaccuracy.
Fox Networks Group chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra is taking on ratings giant Nielsen Media Research, after the research company’s ecent admission that its TV ratings may be off by as much as 8% — and believes the company isn’t acting promptly to correct the problem.
At issue is Nielsen’s recent “In-Panel Validation Initiative,” in which the ratings org investigated how and why some viewers were incorrectly using the PeopleMeter.
Nielsen found enough people punch the meter incorrectly — especially when viewing in large groups — that national TV ratings could be off by 8%.
Nielsen said the study wasn’t meant to be an exhaustive survey of how many Nielsen participants use the PeopleMeter properly, but instead was more a look at why different demo groups weren’t pushing buttons and how to get them to better comply with the system.
As a result, the ratings org said the 8% number wasn’t meant to be carved in stone.
“The point of the study was not to establish a noncompliance level but to gauge how different demo groups perform in relation to others,” Nielsen spokesman Gary Holmes said. “What we were trying to do is establish a baseline that would allow us to improve our measurement. It’s incorrect to conclude there is necessarily an 8% underreporting in our panel.”
But the fact that it’s all unclear is what also bothers Vinciquerra. He notes that Fox execs have been scratching their heads all season over the “American Idol” ratings declines and believes this could be a factor.
“It’s been a hugely successful season, yet the ratings are down 11%,” he said. “There are significant, double-digit gains in (the show’s) votes, and there’s been a huge response. We believe the show is doing better than we see in the ratings.”

Nielsen being questioned in the US for ratings inaccuracy
In an effort to refute the claims of ABS-CBN and TNS that the previous emerged as the new ratings leader in Mega Manila, GMA Network released its statement with opposite figures from AGB Nielsen Media Research.
GMA, said in an article on its news website, that AGB Nielsen is the country’s most preferred ratings provider with over 19 companies in subscription. It also said that AGB Nielsen is the more trusted name in the ratings industry.
Nielsen is also the ratings provider in the US, while TNS serviced the United Kingdom, beating AGB Nielsen in a bid to provide TV ratings in the said European country. While TNS finds stability on its service in UK, Nielsen is facing some scrutiny in the US after reports of inaccuracy.
Fox Networks Group chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra is taking on ratings giant Nielsen Media Research, after the research company’s ecent admission that its TV ratings may be off by as much as 8% — and believes the company isn’t acting promptly to correct the problem.
At issue is Nielsen’s recent “In-Panel Validation Initiative,” in which the ratings org investigated how and why some viewers were incorrectly using the PeopleMeter.
Nielsen found enough people punch the meter incorrectly — especially when viewing in large groups — that national TV ratings could be off by 8%.
Nielsen said the study wasn’t meant to be an exhaustive survey of how many Nielsen participants use the PeopleMeter properly, but instead was more a look at why different demo groups weren’t pushing buttons and how to get them to better comply with the system.
As a result, the ratings org said the 8% number wasn’t meant to be carved in stone.
“The point of the study was not to establish a noncompliance level but to gauge how different demo groups perform in relation to others,” Nielsen spokesman Gary Holmes said. “What we were trying to do is establish a baseline that would allow us to improve our measurement. It’s incorrect to conclude there is necessarily an 8% underreporting in our panel.”
But the fact that it’s all unclear is what also bothers Vinciquerra. He notes that Fox execs have been scratching their heads all season over the “American Idol” ratings declines and believes this could be a factor.
“It’s been a hugely successful season, yet the ratings are down 11%,” he said. “There are significant, double-digit gains in (the show’s) votes, and there’s been a huge response. We believe the show is doing better than we see in the ratings.”

mga loser talaga GMA at manggagaya sa mega manila lang sila no.1 pero para sa buong pilipinas no.1 ang ABS-CBN at saka pala i request niyo naman na magkaroon ng filipino version ng SAVE THE LAST DANCE FOR ME!!!Thanks Basta GMA is LOZERZ
