Calls for Probe of Wilyonaryo Controversy Started

August 31, 2007 by

An official complaint regarding the Wilyonaryo Controversy is now being started by an organization calling itself the “Tanglaw ng Bayan” urging the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to probe the said game segment of ABS-CBN’s noontime show Wowowee.

GMA News reported:

The group faxed to radio station dzBB their letter addressed to DTI Secretary Peter Favila dated August 27 this year.

Expressing “grave concern” over the matter, it urged Favila to conduct “an immediate, fair and impartial probe” on the “Wilyonaryo” game segment controversy.

A check with staff members at the DTI’s Bureau of Trade Regulation and Consumer Protection, the department’s legal assistance group and Favila’s office showed that Tanglaw ng Bayan’s letter has not been received as of posting time.

The group’s spokesman Bayani Santos Jr said in the letter that the DTI investigation would help “protect the general public from possible deceptions and manipulations inimical to their general welfare and interest.”

It’s interesting to note that yesterday, Willie Revillame refuted Joey de Leon’s call to “Explain Before You Complain” by telling the viewers of Wowowee that there’s no need to explain because no one is complaining.

“Di ko kailangan mag-explain dahil walang nag-ko-complain!” ito ang banat ni Willie minutes after Joey de Leon’s speech on Eat Bulaga yesterday, Aug. 30, 2007.

Looks like the complaint was already filed last August 27, 2007 even before Willie Revillame said his piece on Wowowee last August 29, 2007.
