ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. on Friday sued AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines for continuing to release nationwide TV ratings despite information that metered households used to gauge nationwide TV ratings might have been tampered.
“We regret to bring this matter to the public. But the Filipino public and the whole media industry deserve to know the truth. We in ABS-CBN have discovered what can only be viewed as a systematic, organized, and well funded attempt to cheat in the ratings,” ABS-CBN spokesman Bong Osorio said in a statement.
Osorio said that to measure ratings, meters are installed in selected households across the country. These households are considered as representative after passing statistical standards set by the research agency.
“The identity of these metered households is kept secure so that no outside entity can influence their behavior. This ensures that the ratings that come from these homes reflect their true behavior,” Osorio said.
The spokesman said ABS-CBN was approached by a person who confessed that he was hired to locate and bribe metered households to change the programs they are watching in Bacolod. He said ABS-CBN informed AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines about the bribery attempts and urged the agency “to stop the release of erroneous data, check their panel nationwide and resume release only when they can guarantee the integrity of the data.”
He said ABS-CBN has filed a civil case against AGB-Nielsen Media Research Philippines for damages and injunction, with an application for a temporary restraining order, after the agency continued to release its data.
“We know we may be questioned by some and accused of lying by others. In the end, our decision was to do the right thing. Just tell the truth. And now, we are informing you, the public, because you need to know, and because, in the end, we answer to you.

I have asked one of the top officer in a certain research agency about the tv ratings..She said that it is not that accurate kasi daw yung minemeasure ng meter eh kung nakabukas lang ang tv at nagreregister yun..di daw madetermine kung may nanonood b habang nakabukas ang tv at kung ilang miyembro ng pamilya ang nanonood for a particular show.. Di rin daw namemeasure ang dami ng tao na palipat-lipat ng channels every commercials..So that’s it..yan din cguro ang isang factor why ABS seems not doing well (if the ratings are true) kasi marami silang channels..I’m sure maraming ABS viewers, like me, ang palipat-lipat ng channels to have more choices..But they are proposing daw (if this true) to change the meter and use an equipment where it can capture the photos of those watching the television to have a more reliable and credible ratings for advertisers!!! FYI.

another act of desperation from gma ( trying to influence household surveyed by agb nielsen). kung gma nga number 1 sa ratings bakit dominated ng abs-cbn and anak tv seal awards? anak tv seal awards is the most credible award in the country dahil ito po ay resulta ng survey hindi lamang sa metro manila kundi sa iba\’t ibang parte ng pilipinas. ang mga respondents ay tinatanong kung ano ang mga gusto nilang panoorin at kung sino-sino ang mga gusto nilang tv personalities. clearly, puro mga kapamilya lahat dahil ang totoo sila naman talaga ang mas gusto ng sambayanang pilipino.
with regards naman po sa nag comment na paulit-ulit daw mga artista sa abs-cbn, mas recycled naman po yata ang sa gma. wala na yata akong makitang ibang mukha jan kundi si richard, dennis, sunshine, iza at sila na lng ulit. buti nga nagkaroon kayo ng bago sa katauhan ni marianne pero pustahan tau pagkatapos ng marimar siya na naman ulit… compared with abs ang dami nilang pagpiliang artista dahil flooded sila ng magagaling na artista at talaga namang mga sikat. (juday, claudine, angel, sarah, toni, bea, anne, roxanne, piolo, sam, angelica, iya, marielle, sharon, maricel, valerie, kris, ruffa, aga, cesar, jericho, kim, maja, gerald…at naku napakarami pa po. ang sa gma sino ba?

sa lahat ng eche burecheng award ito lang ang kapanipaniwala…dito kasi mga bata ang pumipili…di ba sabi nila hindi daw marunong magsinungaling ang mga bata…dun sa PMPC halata talagang may bayarang nangyayari…ang dami from ABS no…so ito talaga ang evidence…mas love ng mga kabataan ang KAPAMILYA…sori nalang sa mga kapuks…
