Filipinos in UK Demands Apology from BBC for Racial Slur on Harry and Paul

Filipinos in the United Kingdom condemned the BBC comedy “Harry and Paul” for a racial slur that is considered demeaning to Filipino domestic helpers.
On the September 26 episode of “Harry and Paul”, a Filipina maid danced provocatively in front of a man in an attempt to seduce him. According to the two title characters, the Filipina was following the wishes of a neighbor who wanted “their northerner” to “mate” with the “Filipina maid.”
Filipino leaders condemned the assailed skit as racist and demeans the image of Filipino domestic workers. It also promotes sexual exploitation as implied on the said episode.
Philippine Ambassador Edgardo Espiritu said the show contradicts the advocacy of the British government to observe equality for all and respect for human rights.

even though it’s clearly racial slur..come to think of it..they wont make it a joke if it’s not a usual.. i mean come on dont you think there are some true facts on that??
but it is indeed racial slur.
well what can we do there’s a saying “its a free country” right? but then, when is it not a “free country” anymore? when all race is being dissed on national tv..
take it or leave it.. they will just ignore it because we are just a “small country” but if it’s US who’s aggravated here.. you’ll see them making an action..but us? i dont think so..
but yes it is really degrading..

Bull crap. Look at Wowowee and other game show in the Philippines where filipina has to dance like whores. Everyone there is ok with it. Whenever a foriegner is involve we go sensitive and start to attack. BS

Hi, I’m English and know of this program.
The problem is that you haven’t got the joke. I appreciate that British humour can be hard to grasp for people not from the UK.
The target of the joke is the middle class white guy, the scenario highlights his naive ignorance and inherent racism. The main candidate for the racism is actually the Northern guy _not_ the Filipino maid, she could easily be replaced by any other nationality, she isn’t the point.
The joke is that the middle class white guy is treating his northerner as his pet and doesn’t realise how terrible his actions are.
Note that British humour inherently pokes fun out of British people themselves. I encourage you to watch things like The Office, Brass Eye and Peep Show. The point of these shows is to follow an inherently flawed character and to laugh at them.
I also encourage you to visit the UK, we have one of the most multi-cultural capitals and aside from the odd ignorant bastard we are very ANTI-racism. Racism is actually a bit of a public taboo in the UK these days, being racist is utterly unacceptable in most social circles here.
