‘Knowing’ Tops RP Box-Office, ‘Sundo’ Earns P34.2 M in 2 Weeks

Aliens invaded Philippine box-office last weekend of March 25-29, 2009. Local horror movie Sundo dropped to 3rd place.

Knowing, a movie about aliens and the end of the world, grabbed the no. 1 spot with P16.43 million haul last weekend. The Nicholas Cage movie also debuted at no. 1 in the US two weeks ago.

Another “Alien” movie occupied the 2nd spot. Dreamworks’ animated feature Monsters and Aliens hurtled P14.99 million last weekend.

The GMA Films horror movie Sundo settled for 3rd place this week after topping the box-office last week. It was able to rake in P12.49 million last weekend for a two-week total of P34.2 million.

The Star Cinema-Viva Films movie You Changed My Life registered a whopping P221,559,278.9 million on its fifth week of screening. The John Lloyd Cruz-Sarah Geronimo starrer has set the bar high for Pinoy movies matching and even surpassing the grosses of Hollywood films locally.

It’s also interesting to note that for the past 6 consecutive weeks, Pinoy movies topped the local box-office courtesy of When I Met U (2 weeks), You Changed My Life (3 weeks) and Sundo (1 week).

Knowing is only the 2nd Hollywood movie to hit no. 1 in Philippine box-office this year so far. The first one was Underworld: Rise of the Lycans last January.
