Charice Sings the Star Spangled Banner at Los Angeles Dodgers Opening Ceremony

Manny Pacquiao might have snubbed her to sing the Philippine National Anthem in his upcoming bout. Instead, our very own Charice was invited to sing the US National Anthem at the Los Angeles Dodgers opening ceremony.

Charice Pempengco sings the Star Spangled Banner in front of 57,099 people at Los Angeles Dodgers opening day ceremony at Dodger Stadium, live last April 13,2009 at 12:30 PM.

This is how Charice was introduced before the enthusiastic crowd:

Now we welcome the phenomenal young teen whose singing has been worldwide fame and admiration and who is sensational this year’s historic Presidential inauguration events. Please welcome from the Philippines, sixteen year-old, Charice.”

Aside from the standing ovation, Charice likewise received positive write-ups from several critiques abroad on her performance, “It was the best national anthem rendition I have ever heard, better than the game,” Russell Martin uttered. While Manager Joe Torres says, “Tears in my eyes when she really gets going,”

In an interview with TV Patrol World, Charice expresses her delight in singing the U.S. National Anthem, “Isipin nyo sa tagal ng years na ‘yun, and dami nang celebrities na kumanta ng American National Anthem. Ang masaya lang sa para akin ako yung pinili nila kahit hinde naman ako American Citizen.”
