Philippine sports enters the digital era as ABS-CBN launched its high-definition test broadcast of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines’ (UAAP) basketball games last Saturday, July 11. The Kapamilya Network will also air the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) this Monday, July 13, on Balls HD (SkyCable Channel 166).
According to ABS-CBN Sports Head Peter Musngi, it will only be a matter of time before ABS-CBN starts airing boxing, billiards, and even non-basketball games of UAAP and the NCAA on HD.
“We’re bringing the UAAP to the digital age. With HDTV, local viewers can now experience what sports fans around the world already enjoy: wide-screen and crystal clear picture quality, fluid motion, and digital sound. HDTV is apt for sporting events and it is a perfect fit for avid sports viewers who want to see all the action.”
High definition TV (HDTV) is the latest standard in TV technology, which is already experienced in countries across the United States, Europe and Asia. As the first and only local network with a full HD OB van, ABS-CBN will mark the first time in Philippine television history to broadcast a locally-produced program and a live event on high-definition.
Balls HD (SkyCable channel 166) will air the live telecast of the UAAP games on HD from 2pm to 7pm every Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, while NCAA games on HD will air every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The primetime telecast of the games will be at 8pm for UAAP and 10pm for NCAA on the said days.
There will also be live standard broadcast coverage of the UAAP and the NCAA on Studio 23 on the same schedules. Replay of the games will follow on the same days on Balls Channel (Skycable Channel 34) on primetime beginning 8pm for UAAP and 10pm for NCAA.
UAAP and NCAA on HD are available to all SkyCable subscribers with an HD box, which decodes SkyCable’s HD signal. For further inquires, call SkyCable at (02) 631-0000.

Anong pinagsasabi mong bagsak ang bilang TFC subscriptions,nagiimbento ka sobra, baka kamo ang GMA Pinoy TV ang bagsak hindi lang bagsak, bagsak na bagsak. I’m from San Jose, CA dito lang sa San Jose ang dami ko nang kilala na nagsubscribe ng GMA Pinoy TV for awhile pero pincancel kaagad hindi yan imbento totoo yan bukod kasi sa hindi nila kilala yung mga artista ang papangit pa raw ng palabas, hindi kagaya ng mga shows ng channel 2 puro de-kaledad, ang mga akting ng mga artista superb. Alam mo ba may proof dyan eh, almost lahat ng nagcoconcert dito sa America are artists from ABS-CBN, eh kasi nga mas kilala nila ang mga artista dito eh pag from GMA artist either flop or hindi tuloy ang concert. Alam mo bang yung Star Magic Concert dito sa San Francisco talaga namang so successful, akalain mo ba Cow Palace ang laki laki nung venue na yon pero napuno nila. Eh di ba proof na yan. 90% to 95% ng Filipinos dito TFC subscribers, baka yang GMA Pinoy TV mo eh 5% lang so please huwag magimbento, Basta ang channel 2 number 1 saan mang sulok ng mundo. Yang GMA mo number 1 kuno sa Metro Manila eh daya naman coming from Anabelle minamanipulate daw ni Wilma yung rating ng Zorro. Don’t worry magkakashow din yang mga superstars na sinasabi mo, kasi yang mga yan kahit walang mga show mga sikat pa rin eh yung mga artista ng channel 7 puro feeling sikat lang, I read nga so many times sikat na raw yung Kris-Aljur eh bakit walang mga commercials dun pa lang walang kadududa dinadaya yang ratings na yan.
