Twenty-two out of the overall top 30 programs were from GMA Network, with the first four programs in the list all Kapuso primetime hits.
As such, despite reductions in industry advertising expenditures, GMA Network remains financially strong and has consistently been ahead of its competitor in minute loading. In the first five months of 2009 , GMA Network registered a net income of P1.087 billion, a growth of 22 percent from the P890-million bottom line last year. Gross revenues for the five-month period grew by 7 percent to P4.952 billion. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) was at P1.854 billion, 12 percent higher compared to 2008 figures.
GMA’s investments in the past years (regional expansion, state-of-the-art GMA Network Studios) solidifiy GMA’s position as the premier network in the Philippines, gearing it for greater growth in the future.

According to Pulse Asia’s 2008 Ulat ng Bayan survey, GMA Network’s News and Public Affairs programs got the highest credibility rating nationwide.
Based on the study, 73 percent of TV viewers nationwide regard GMA N&PA programs as credible. The Kapuso station was ahead of its competitors. GMA N&PA’s credibility was more pronounced in the National Capital Region with a rating of 84 percent.

GMA captured 16 out of the Top 30 slots. TV5 had one and ABS-CBN had 13.
GMA still leads in the channel rating (16.7% vs. 15.1% ) and audience share (37.7% vs. 34.2%) for the said week

Marian Rivera is only television’s primetime queen.Anyone can watch Darna
whether you are a Marian fan or not because of its story and hype.The high
ratings does not represent the majority
of viewers. If Darna is a movie and not
a tv series, would moviegoers pay to see Darna? In 1973 when Vilma Santos
played Darna, it was a movie not a tv
series. Vilma’s Lipad Darna Lipad broke
all box-office records and it was shown
in theatres for 3 months because it was
such a huge hit. If Marian’s Darna is
is a movie, will it be a box-office
record breaker like Lipad Darna Lipad?
The success of a tv series does not translate into superstardom of a certain
actress or actor, it is the box-office
results that determine if a star is really popular with the masses. Marian
did movies before and none of them were
record breakers although it did well
at the box-office. There are actresses
who are succesful only on television
but not in movies and at the box-office. One example was Pilita Corrales.Her tv show in the 60’s was
top rated, almost everyone I knew watched ‘An Evening With Pilita’ but
when Pilita did a movie, it was a flop.
So don’t assume that Marian Rivera is
a superstar just because of Darna’s high ratings. And Marian is already
overexposed, her face is seen in too
many shows, soon the audience will get tired of her. Fans reaction when they see Marian in person is more subdued, there is no pandemonium or hysteria, usually superstars or movie queens create excitement and hysterical adulation wherever they go.What’s special about Marian Rivera?
