August 23, 2009 by cd
Set to be unleashed on February 12th, 2010 is “The Wolfman” starring Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, Hugo Weaving, Geraldine Chaplin and Benicio del Torro.

Synopsis: Lawrence Talbot is a haunted nobleman lured back to his family estate after his brother vanishes. Reunited with his estranged father, Talbot sets out to find his brother…and discovers a horrifying destiny for himself.
Lawrence Talbot’s childhood ended the night his mother died. After he left the sleepy Victorian hamlet of Blackmoor, he spent decades recovering and trying to forget. But when his brother’s fiancée, Gwen Conliffe, tracks him down to help find her missing love, Talbot returns home to join the search. He learns that something with brute strength and insatiable bloodlust has been killing the villagers, and that a suspicious Scotland Yard inspector named Aberline has come to investigate.
As he pieces together the gory puzzle, he hears of an ancient curse that turns the afflicted into werewolves when the moon is full. Now, if he has any chance at ending the slaughter and protecting the woman he has grown to love, Talbot must destroy the vicious creature in the woods surrounding Blackmoor. But as he hunts for the nightmarish beast, a simple man with a tortured past will uncover a primal side to himself…one he never imagined existed.
Joe Johnston (“Jurassic Park III”) directs “The Wolfman,” and six-time Oscar-winning special effects artist Rick Baker brings his design and makeup talents to transform Del Toro into the fearsome title character.
Set to be unleashed on February 12th, 2010 is “The Wolfman” starring Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, Hugo Weaving, Geraldine Chaplin and believe it or not, Gene Simmons as the voice of The Wolfman.

GMA Network nets P1.14 B in H1, up 20%
By JAMES LOYOLA
August 13, 2009, 4:18pm
GMA Network Inc. is confident of hitting and even exceeding its 2009 net income target of P2.8 billion after reporting a 20 percent jump in bottomline to P1.36 billion in the first half of the year from the P1.14 billion in 2008.
In a press briefing Thursday, GMA chief financial officer Felipe Yalong noted that the second half is normally stronger than the first half with about 55 percent of earnings coming in the second semester.
GMA said its net income grew despite a volatile business environment that saw a contraction in the ad spend of major advertisers.
Gross revenues for the first six months went up by 8 percent to P6.34 billion as airtime revenues from TV and Radio contributed P5.8 billion, or a 92 percent share in the gross revenue pie.
The remaining P537 million came from subscription fees of International operations and from other revenue generating activities of subsidiaries.
Second quarter gross revenues settled at P3.68 billion, higher by 11 percent versus last year. Net income for the second quarter went up by 26 percent to P860 million.
Q Channel 11’s airtime revenues climbed 13 percent to P214 million, while airtime revenues from Radio operations likewise increased by 13 percent to P160 million.
On the other hand, subscription revenues for GMA International jumped 59 percent over last year. Apart from the steady growth in subscriber count from its main channel, GMA Pinoy TV (GPTV), the launch of its second channel GMA Life TV (GLTV) contributed further to the revenue upswing for GMA International.
GPTV finished the first half with a steady number of over 217,000 subscribers equivalent to about 1.1 million viewers or a 21 percent increase over last year. GLTV already has over 112,000 subscribers or around 620,000 viewers worldwide, up by 180 percent over last year.

ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. on Wednesday said its net income tripled in the second quarter of the year.
The Lopez broadcasting company said net income amounted to P621 million from April to June from P191 million in the same period last year.
GMA-7’s profits climb….
The Philippines’ leading broadcast company posted double-digit profit growth during the first half despite less advertising spending due to the volatile business environment.
Profits of GMA Network Inc. reached P1.361 billion from January to June, 19.7 percent higher than the P1.137 billion reported during the same period last year, the company said.
Second quarter income also rose by more than a quarter to P860 million.
Strong results have prompted the company’s chief financial officer Felipe S. Yalong to say that the network is on track towards reaching – and perhaps even exceeding – income targets for the year, especially since “second half performance is usually stronger than the first.”
GMA Network Inc. shares closed 16.42 percent higher at P7.80 on Thursday from previous close of P6.70 prior to the company’s investors and analysts’ briefing in the afternoon.
At 10:55 am, GMA Network Inc. was one of the top gainers at P7.50, already higher by 11.94 percent compared to the previous trading day.
The company’s gross revenues rose eight percent to P6.335 billion with TV and radio airtime revenues contributing 92 percent at P5.798 billion.
The remaining P537 million came from subscription fees of international operations and from other revenue-generating activities of subsidiaries.
Quarterly revenues reached P3.684 billion, up 11 percent year-on-year.
GMA Network Inc. enjoyed a 0.5 percent increase in advertising minutes, tracking the 0.9 percent growth in total industry TV advertising minutes.
Q Channel 11’s airtime revenues climbed 13 percent to P214 million while airtime revenues from radio operations likewise improved by 13 percent to P160 million.
Subscription revenues for GMA International jumped 59 percent year-on-year with the launch of second channel GMA Life TV (GLTV) besides steady growth in subscriber count from its main channel GMA Pinoy TV (GPTV).
GPTV and GLTV are now available in the US, Canada, Europe, Middle East, North Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and many other countries to cater to the international audience, the company said.
GPTV has a steady number of over 217,000 subscribers during the first semester, equivalent to about 1.1 million viewers, a 21 percent increase over last year. The channel already has over 112,000 subscribers or around 620,000 viewers worldwide, up by 180 percent over last year.
GMA Worldwide, Inc. (GWI) has syndicated locally-made programs to Africa, Alaska, and UK, posting positive revenue contribution with contracts worth P20.5 million at mid-year.
At current levels, this is already equivalent to 66 percent of its projected sales for the year.
Total operating expenses inched up by four percent to P3.499 billion. Production costs, which made up 52 percent of the total operating expenditure, dipped by three percent year-on-year to P1.811 billion.
General and administrative expenses rose 14 percent to P1.688 billion led by higher personnel costs as it hired more workers and higher depreciation resulting from the regional expansion projects and the GMA Studios.
Earnings before interests, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) settled at P2.341 billion during the semester, 10 percent higher than the 2008 figures.
