Camille Cortez competed with Francheska Farr in the final 2 of the female category.
Alex Castro competed with Geoff Taylor in the final 2 of the male category.

GMA Network hits ABS-CBN for ‘poor signal’
GMA NETWORK, Inc. yesterday denied claims by rival ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. of signal interference in some areas in Batangas, arguing that its rival’s broadcast signal in the area is below standards.
The Lopez-led firm complained of signal interference on June 11, 2008, blaming GMA Network’s Channel 10 (DZEA-TV) in Benguet. ABS-CBN said it was first observed in the towns of Tuy, Mataas na Kahoy, and Malvar, later reaching Calatagan, Sto. Tomas, Tanauan, and Lipa.
GMA Network told the National Telecommunications Commission that it “cannot be faulted for the interference … as [ABS-CBN’s] signal in the said area was found to be below the prescribed signal level and grade to establish good coverage.”

‘Darna’ soars above all in nationwide TV ratings

GMA Network’s new series “Darna,” which stars Primetime Queen Marian Rivera, has quickly conquered the hearts of Filipinos when it ranked number one in TV ratings nationwide.
Based on the National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM) data from AGB Nielsen Philippines from Aug. 9 to 15, “Darna” beat all programs nationwide and took the number one spot with an average TV rating of 35.6%. “Darna’s” audience share reached 47.3%, which translates to more than 2.7 million projected number of TV households.
The series, originally created for comics by Mars Ravelo, premiered last Aug. 10 on GMA Telebabad. “Darna” pilot episode posted a TV rating of 44% in Mega Manila. Since then, “Darna” has been posting more than 40% TV ratings in most days, almost double the TV ratings being generated by its competing program.
The show posted its highest TV rating in Mega Manila of 47.5% last Aug. 18, when Narda became Darna for the first time.
“Darna’s” story gets even more intense in its upcoming episodes as the journey of the Pinay superhero continues. This week, Darna’s alter-ego, Narda, becomes the target of Impi (Mura), the evil twin of super villain Babaeng Impakta (Nadine Samonte). Babaeng Impakta managed to escape her wicked twin to be able to live normal as Roma. But Impi, who is dependent on human beings, moves from one person to another to kill people. Narda, who was almost killed by Impi, will later become friends with Roma. Roma will share her dark secret to Narda.
On the other hand, “Darna” discovers that aside from being the target of the super villains, she is also being pursued by ambitious and evil people. Newspaper editor Crisanto (Raymart Santiago) schemes to trap Darna using a fake hold-up scenario for his publication. Darna will also encounter a syndicate led by Shiro (Polo Ravales) when the group tries to rob a bank. In the encounter, Shiro will try to hit Darna with a bazooka!
The drama and action that envelope the upcoming episodes are something “Darna” viewers should not miss.
The No. 1 primetime series, “Darna,” airs weeknights after “24 Oras” on GMA Telebabad.

Darna fever felt all over Davao
As the saying goes, save the best for last, so did GMA Network as they treated Davaoeños last Sunday, Aug. 23, during the last day of their annual Kadayawan Festival with the network’s Primetime Queen Marian Rivera as “Darna,” their newest No. 1 primetime show!
Joining Marian in the GMA Network’s activities called “Todo Kalingawan sa Kadyawan” were Mark Anthony Fernandez, Iwa Moto and Buboy Villar.
First in their activity was the Kadayawan Festival Parade which featured the aforementioned cast of “Darna” on the Kapuso float from 8 a.m. till 12 p.m. The said parade was covered live by GMA TV5 of Davao which was dubbed “Pamulakan sa Kadayawan: A Kapuso Parade Coverage” with hosts Pia Arcangel and Tek Ocampo, the host of Davao’s popular local news program “Testigo.”
The Kapuso Network also celebrated with more Davaoeños at the Gaisano Mall of Davao. They treated them to various mall activities – sponsors’ booths opened for Davaoeños to enjoy as early as 12 p.m., goodies given away and a special public screening of “Darna” for Davaoeños who wanted to relive or catch-up with past episodes, to mention a few. The event was hosted by Davao’s famous twins Krystal and Kristine and “Starstruck” alumnae Chuck Allie.
Of course the main event, which was highly anticipated by Davaoeños as their numbers grew throughout the afternoon, filling the mall from the ground and up the four floors was the appearance of Darna!
The excitement also built up as Mark Anthony Fernandez who plays the love interest of Narda and even Darna in the series serenaded Davaoeños with a couple of songs. Then Buboy Villar who plays Ding in the show also delighted audience with his knack for singing and his comical dance steps.
Last but not the least was the appearance of Iwa Moto as Valentina, the main antagonist in the series and Marian Rivera as the super heroine Darna. As the whole Gaisano Mall of Davao shouted in unison the name Darna, and as they exploded with cheers and applause, they were treated to a production number. Davaoeños saw Darna in action as she battled and defeated on stage stunt men as villains!
“We really had fun,” expressed Iwa in Filipino. “From our taping we immediately flew to Davao for this event. Even if we’re tired, the Davaoeños’ energy gave us the strength to perform for them and greet them a Happy Kadayawan Festival. I’m very grateful for their warm response!”
And Primetime Queen Marian Rivera, couldn’t agree more with Iwa’s sentiments.
“I’m very happy to be part of the Kadayawan Festival,” she said in Filipino. “The Davaoeños are very warm and appreciative of our presence. I’m very happy that ‘Darna’ is making Davaoeños happy and is putting a smile on their faces as well. This is the reason we are really working hard in the show. And there will still be more exciting episodes of ‘Darna’ to come!”
So far, since it started airing, “Darna” has consistently dominated the ratings’ game in Mega Manila on its time slot. “Darna” even soared to new heights in terms of its Mega Manila TV ratings last Aug. 18 when it earned the highest to date – 47.5%!
The early successes of “Darna” only means that Filipinos have already embraced and welcomed in their hearts the new Darna especially the actress portraying her – Marian Rivera.
“I’m very thankful to God for this blessing,” Marian smiled.
