Katorse, Proven to Depict Moral Values
October 30, 2009 by cd
There’s an argument brought up by a reader of this site questioning Katorse and the moral values that it may instill to young people. One of the stars of Katorse addresses the issue.

Katorse’s lead star Ejay Falcon is enjoying the fruits of his labor. “Thank you sa lahat ng mga sumusuporta sa aming teleserye . Para talaga ito sa mga kabataan. Ginagarantiya namin na marami silang matutunan dito. Nais naming kapulutan nila ito ng aral.”
Katorse, like no other drama, will help ease struggles as it portrays real-life situations which are applicable to all people from different walks of life.
Angelica, not her real name, shared how Katorse has inspired her through the moral values it depict. At the early age of 16, she got pregnant. However, the story of Nene made her move on. “Akala ko hindi na ako magiging masaya nang nabuntis ako. Tinalikuran ako ng boyfriend ko at pinalayas ako ng tatay ko. Natutunan ko sa Katorse na maging matatag at huwag sumuko sa laban ng buhay. Buti na lang, tulad ng nanay ni Nene, naging supportive din yung Mama ko sa akin. Pinayagan pa rin nya ako na magpatuloy sa pag-aaral ko.”
The hit TV series has undoubtedly catered to all aspects of everyday life. Denice Aniag, an 18-year old nursing student and an avid viewer of Katorse, expressed how she enjoys the variety of situations that the show offers. “Actually, hindi lang limited ang Katorse sa issue ng teen pregnancy. It also suggests solutions to friendship, love and family problems. And what I love about it, sa kabila ng maagang pagkamulat ni Nene sa mga bagay-bagay, na-manage pa rin niya na hindi mapariwara.”
Nurturing of values will never stop in the upcoming episodes of Katorse. Margarita (Cherie Gil) and Aling Nena (Malou De Guzman) finally arrive at the shanty where Nene (Erich Gonzales) his son Tomi and boyfriend Jojo (Enchong Dee) reside. Magarita, then, deprives Nene of taking care of Tomi. Athough hurt for her daughter, Aling Nena agrees to Margarita’s decision, to teach Nene a lesson. Nene, desperately longing for her son, attempts to kidnap baby Tomi, but Gabby (Ejay Falcon) catches her.
What will Gabby do? Will he accept Nene’s plea? Will Nene ever get the custody of her son again? Watch the exciting moments in Katorse, before TV Patrol World on ABS-CBN.

OK… as much as I wanna be skeptic about “Angelica” and “Denice’s” existence, I know what this poster is saying. There’s no better way to educate the people not only about hardships of young mothers, but also about determination to be better, than to make it more realistic with what is actually happening in the society. Pieta tried to do that (with a very impressive first week) and I think it was the closest rendition of the bad life that most of our kababayans are experiencing. Sadly, our primetimes are sprinkled with lame-trying-hard-kiddie-entertainment and slippery-soapy soaps stretched thin to ridiculous proportions. And to add insult to the injury, these messy excuses for TV shows rate the highest in Manila!

The show depicts a reality that many teens face today. I appreciate it that the show does not romanticize teen pregnancy and really shows the difficulty of the situation..
Just wondering though, what if this show (or story) was produced by the rival network, would Kapamilyas still think of it as a show with a moral or an immoral show? Well, Kapusos on the other hand would surely changed their views 180 degrees if this was a GMA show..hehehe

my comment for the show is that its like a ball bouncing. this is the only show that has the most said ” sorry ” .pansinin nyo … every day at least 5 sorry’s has been said. nakakabwisit na eh. panay sorry po at di na mauulit. medyo paki correct at nagmumukha ng weirdo and writer ng show na yan….
