Jim Carrey Stars in ‘I Love You Phillip Morris’

Jim Carrey "falls in love" with Ewan McGregor in "I Love You Phillip Morris."

The film is based on the real life events of con artist, impostor, and multiple prison escapee Steven Jay Russell as portrayed by Jim Carrey. While incarcerated, Russell falls in love with his cell mate, Phillip Morris (played by Ewan McGregor). After Morris is released from prison, Russell escapes from prison four times in order to be reunited with Morris.

Due to its homosexual content, the film had difficulty finding a U.S. distributor. It was re-edited until it was aquired by Consolidated Pictures Group for distribution.

The film was adapted from the book “I Love You Phillip Morris: A True Story of Life, Love, and Prison Breaks” by Steve McVicker. It also stars Leslie Mann and Rodrigo Santoro and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa.

The Jim Carrey-starrer is currently an official entry at the Sundance Film Festival and is due for commercial release on March 26, 2010.
