Tonight on I-Witness: Jay Taruc Tackles Organ Harvesting
January 25, 2010 by cd · Comments Off

“Two children were found dead! They were inside a sack, and their organs were taken.” This urban legend has been making the rounds in parents’ circles in a certain barangay in Quezon City.
Not long ago, tales of missing children that were allegedly kidnapped for their organs made the news. Now, the stories are resurfacing. Could they be true? Jay Taruc investigates.
Local records show that cases of missing children are rampant in this part of Quezon City. According to barangay officials and residents, children go missing in their area almost every day. Just last week, two siblings, age five and seven, were abducted by unidentified men. After two days in captivity, they were released. In Jay Taruc’s interview with the children, they say they were not harmed by their captors who even fed them rice, eggs and hotdogs. The children also remember seeing a lady in white in the house where they were taken. Although they were later on returned to their families unharmed, the question remains: Why were they taken?
Meanwhile, another mother testifies that she saw the remains of another young child allegedly cut up at the chest and at the side. She and other residents wonder why this incident never made the news. But according to local tanods, they did not find the body in the place that witnesses had pointed to.
Because of these urban tales, parents are paranoid about their children’s safety. And with several young ones still unaccounted for, the paranoia is increasing. But what is the truth behind these mysterious disappearances? Are these urban tales just the figment of the residents’ imaginations? Or is there a deeper cause of child disappearances being masked by the stories?
Find out on I-Witness tonight after the latenight newscast Saksi on GMA-7.

What is the reason behind the rampant political dynasty in the Philippines?
Join Ricky Carandang as he takes a glimpse on the powerful Jalosjos clan in Zamboanga del Norte this Tuesday (Jan 26) on “The Correspondents” on ABS-CBN.
For the past nine years, Zamboanga del Norte was ruled by a congressman and mayor from the Jalosjos family. This is the clan of Romeo Jalosjos Sr, the former congressman who was convicted of child rape in 2002 and was given parole by President Arroyo last year.
However, even after nearly a decade of rule, the Jalosjos leaders have failed to lift the province from being the second most impoverish province in the country according to the latest data in 2006. Yet, the family is even bent on taking over nearby Zamboanga Sibugay.
Visit http://thecorrespondents.multiply.com for other issues tackled in the program.
