‘Nurse Jackie’ and ‘The Good Wife’ Shine Among the Emmys Glitz

Glitz, glamour, and style will once again take over the red carpet as television’s biggest names come together in one of Hollywood’s biggest nights of the year.

Aired on Velvet every Thursday at 8:30pm, American legal drama series “The Good Wife” landed nods in Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series, Outstanding Costumes for a Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Julianna Margulies, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Archie Panjabi and Christine Baranski, and Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for both Alan Cumming and Dylan Baker. “The Good Wife” focuses on Margulies as Alicia Florrick, the wife of a disgraced state attorney Peter Florrick (Chris Noth) who rebuilds her reputation after her husband was jailed following a very public sex and corruption scandal.

Viewer favorite “Nurse Jackie,” which airs on Velvet every Thursday at 9:30pm, gained nominations in Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Cinematography for a Half-Hour Series, Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Main Title Design, Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Edie Falco, and Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for Eli Wallach. Dark comedy series “Nurse Jackie” is a story about the strong-willed and brilliant–but very flawed–emergency room nurse Jackie Peyton, R.N played by three-time Emmy Award winner Edie Falco.

Meanwhile, hit American reality-dance competition “So You Think You Can Dance” was recognized in the Outstanding Choreography and Outstanding Makeup for a Multi-Camera Series or Special (Non-Prosthetic) categories. Also in the list of this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards nominees are Velvet’s Spotlight specials, “82nd Annual Academy Awards” and Andrea Bocelli & David Foster: My Christmas (Great Performances). The 82nd Annual Academy Awards gained nominations in 12 categories including Outstanding Art Direction For Variety, Music Or Nonfiction Programming, Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Short-Form Picture Editing (2 nominees), Outstanding Hairstyling For A Multi-Camera Series or Special, Outstanding Lighting Direction (Electronic, Multi-Camera) for Variety, Music or Comedy Programming, Outstanding Makeup for a Multi-Camera Series Or Special (Non-Prosthetic), Outstanding Music Direction, Outstanding Special Class Programs, Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety or Music Series or Special, Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video Control for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special, and Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special. “Andrea Bocelli & David Foster: My Christmas (Great Performances),” on the other hand was nominated in Outstanding Music Direction.

The Emmys will have its primetime telecast later that same day beginning at 6pm, with encore telecasts on September 1, Wednesday, at 9pm and September 4, Saturday, at 8pm.

Hosted by late night host Jimmy Fallon, the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will happen at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
