Poll: Do You Agree with Ai Ai delas Alas Winning the Box-Office Queen Title Instead of Toni Gonzaga?

Fans of Toni Gonzaga believe their idol should have been the Box Office Queen instead of Ai Ai delas Alas.

The Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Awards recently named Vic Sotto and Bong Revilla as the Box-Office Kings of 2010 while Ai Ai delas Alas as the Box-Office Queen. The basis was the box-office gross of their movies.

Sotto and Revilla’s MMFF collaboration “Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote” raked in a total of P159 million in its 2-week MMFF duration. Ai Ai’s “Ang Tanging Ina Mo Last Na To”, also an MMFF entry, has grossed P157 million during the said period.

If we are to consider the whole 2 weeks duration of the 2010 Metro Manila Film Festival including its run from January 1 to 8, 2011, then the said movies are the clear top-grossing Pinoy flicks for 2010 with “Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote” at no. 1 while “Ang Tanging Ina Mo, Last Na To” at no. 2.

Toni Gonzaga‘s fans disagree. They are appealing to the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Awards committee and their argument is that the basis for the awards should be the box-office gross of the films for 2010 only and that the January 1 to 8, 2011 gross of the 2 MMFF movies should NOT be counted. Thus, the highest-grossing Pinoy movie of 2010 should be “My Amnesia Girl” by virtue of its P144.8 million box-office gross.

This is definitely a debatable argument with technicalities to be considered. But in your opinion, do you agree with the results that Ai Ai delas Alas is the new box-office queen instead of Toni Gonzaga?

Nobody seems to be complaining about the Box-Office King result. Perhaps the reason why is that they gave JLC the “consolation” title of Film Actor of the Year or perphaps he had enough trophies already (that’s three wins for 3 consecutive years)?

    I dont think Toni have many die hard fans. Those fans are probably from her barangay who mainly benefits from toni’s money giving them allowances to vote on the internet and hakot them to the buzz.

    I like Toni but she is not a movie queen, just a tv host and a regular star.

    Stop feeling like a big big star.

    yeah, ai-ai’s movie played for two weeks WITHOUT any other foreign/hollywood films to compete with, plus extended to 2011. MAG was actually cut short to make way for the MMFF movies. And please, it’s not all about JLC. Toni has a gigantic fanbase as well. This is her 3rd film to gross over p100M.

    I think si Toni ang magiging box office queen. kasi yung tanging ina, tumakbo hanggang first quarter ng january 2011. yung my amnesia girl, noong 2010 lang siya pinalabas 🙂 same verdict goes to John lloyd ang vic/bong (agimat ni enteng).

    aiai deserves it. biro mo naman 2 weeks lang ang pinanlaban nya. eh ung movie ni toni eh inabot ng 5 weeks. at saka c aiai talaga nagdala ng pelikula nya unlike toni kasama nya jlc.

    Dapat nga si Aiai lang dyan ang may awards eh. Wala na yang dalawang Agimat at enteng. Overall, nanalo pa rin ang tanging ina mo last na to. Mas maraming kinita ito.Umpisahan natin sa US dito sa Vismin at iba pang panig ng mundo.

    Why are people so gungho abot titles? It shold be enoght that these movies made millions and as Tony said, I’m jst happy that movie clicked. Sre it’s nice to be the…. bt let’s face it yo fans, it’s jst a title. Please let it be. I love Ai ai as a person (on what I hear and so is Toni ) and whoever wins won I am so happy for them, but tittle or no title, jst let it go! Ang hihilig kasi nitong mga compaanies na magcompare, nakakaloka! Dito sa US, happy na ang mga artista na ma recognize with even just praise at iisa lang ang nagpaparangal like the Golden Globe Award, kaya tantanan na ninyo sila. Pa-poll-poll a kayo!

    The gross of the top 10 movies of 2010 posted in wiki is the most accurate because it was submitted by the film outfit,and a film outfit would not post higher gross than what they’ve earned,the higher the gross,the bigger the tax,so they will tell the exact box office returns probably,unless they want to have lower vat,they will post lower amount,but theY would never do that,they dont want to hear that their movie is flop

    The figures above comes from B0M, and what B0M counts are just major cinemas like trinoma,SM,robinsons, the minor cinemas were n0t included,and there are m0re or less 30-40 provincial cinemas who simultaneously showing the film,and yung mga cinemas who are small player and late screener ay di pa kasali

    Nope, mali ang wiki, hindi naka 215 million ang My Amnesia Girl. Ung official gross ng Tanging Ina P157million, ung duration lang ng MMFF ang pinagbasehan, e ang Amnesia naka 144.8m lang. Tama ung kay Starmo

    Magulo ang rules ng Guillermo, kung 2010 dapat ung boxoffice receipts lang ng 2010. Toni Gonzaga should be the box office queen considering na Hollywood movies ang kalaban ng “My Amnesia Girl” samantala ung kay Ai Ai, MMFF un, walang kalabang Hollywood movies yun!
