A year has passed and yet President Benigno Aquino III has not granted any executive clemency for senior citizens in jail.

Many of them are already suffering from different ailments and in need of love and care of their families. With their lives slowly fading away, is their still hope for them to get the freedom they have hoped for a long time?

This Thursday (June 23) in “Krusada,” ABS-CBN correspondent Abner Mercado will show us the sad condition of elderly prisoners by introducing us to three inmates from the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW). They were expected to be freed last December but did not get their parole.

Abner’s crusade for old prisoners began years ago in the investigative documentary show “The Correspondents.” After three episodes on this topic, he was able to help a few of them get out of jail.

This advocacy is close to Abner’s heart as he sees his own mother and grandmother in the lolos and lolas in prison he has spoken with.
