Sponge Cola and Jay-R Stepped Up their Artistry by Fusing their Songs
“I think madali for us to collaborate and mag-jamming kasi matagal na rin naming ginagawa ito, si Jay-R saka kami we’ve been around for quite a while. Marami siyang collaborations and kami naman marami rin, so parang, manok na ‘to e,” Sponge Cola’s frontman, Yael Yuzon said.
Jay-R, on the other hand, was amazed on how smooth the two songs, “Puso” and “Design for Luv,” went together.
“Everything went to plan, sa meeting we decided for them to pretty much just practicing ‘Design for Luv’ tapos pagdating dito sa rehearsal, we just put the two songs together and that’s what happened, we made magic,” Jay-R
Sponge Cola admitted that they were not familiar with Jay-R’s “Design for Luv” but because it has a very catchy melody, they easily got acquianted with the song.
“Design for Luv”, by the way, is Jay-R’s very first single after he signed with Universal Records in 2003. The song contains a R&B, hip-hop vibe, which was rare for OPM songs at that time. The song’s music video was shot on Hollywood, Los Angeles, California (CLICK HERE to check the music video). Rapper JD Jr. is featured on the song’s video.
“Puso,” on the other hand, is from Sponge Cola’s third studio and self-titled album (CLICK HERE to check the music video). Yael mentioned that although it’s from a different genre than Jay-R’s “Design for Luv,” both songs have relative keys and both talked about passion.
“Yung key kasi is relatively…kumbaga mag-pinsan ‘yung key, magkalapit, at the same time kasi, parang, both songs talked about passion, and I think that’s what Coke is all about,” He said.
Jay-R describes the mash-up as one of those good jam sessions that he and other artists live for.
“Just finally doing it, it was a good feeling because in the beginning we just came together and we just jammed it the first time, tapos, ‘yun, I mean it was fun e, it was I guess you lived for, those jam sessions where you know like two good artists come together and you know you have to step up your game, and it has made something nice di ba? Everyone is like really feeling it and doing it and being talented you know? Kaya ang ganda ng feeling,” the RnB Prince shared.
The mash-up of R&B song “Design for Luv” and the rock hit “Puso” equals refreshing music that’s sure to pump you up.
