Edgar Allan Guzman Celebrates 5th Year in Showbiz

Edgar Allan Guzman, the young and energetic performer who is best remembered as the last Mr. Pogi Grand winner, is celebrating his 5th Anniversary in show business in a special way.

After his special anniversary production numbers in “Hey, It’s Saberdey,” Edgar is part of the new teleserye on TV5 that is premiering on tonight, entitled “The Sisters.” He is also the featured artist in Star Confessions on Wednesday with his life story top-billed by his first showbiz employer Joross Gamboa – for whom he served as a back up dancer 5 years ago.

In the movies, Edgar has starred in various drama projects where he has proven his mettle as a promising young actor and has acted in movies opposite Robin Padilla, Dennis Trillo, Sid Lucero and other formidable actors and even got the critics’ nod for his acclaimed performance in the movie “Astig,” which brought him from the Cinemalaya stage all the way to the Pusan International Film Festival in Korea and the Osaka Asian Film Festival in Japan. He was also nominated as Best Supporting Actor in the academe-critics group’s PASADO Awards in 2009.

Last year, Edgar faced a new challenge — he starred in a difficult two-character film “Magdamag” opposite the multi-awarded Rita Avila which was recently part of the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema section of the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival 2010. This year, as he celebrates his 5th Anniversary in show business, he is starring in two important Cinemalaya Films: “Bisperas” by Jeffrey Jeturian (Director’s Showcase) and “Ligo Na U, Lapit Na Me” by Erick Salud (New Breed Category) — which makes him truly the new indie prince.

Edgar has just released his 5th Anniversary collection of songs inspired by his Cinemalaya entries entitled “EDGAR ALLAN GUZMAN: BREAKTHROUGH” – now available in Astrovision and Odyssey branches nationwide.

One thing with Edgar, he is always at his best in everything he does — whether in singing, dancing or acting. This Kapatid talent has really come a long way — and he is about to chart new heights in his career in the years to come.
