Callalily and Kiss Jane Join Forces in ‘Volume Up’

Last summer, Filipino music got an extra boost after the Coca-Cola Music Studio was launched on the web. The website, which aims to connect to the young generation, has featured four pairs of the country’s top musicians.

The pairing was really interesting because for each session, two OPM artists from different genres joined together and fused their hit songs to create a refreshing new sound. What they did is called a “mash-up” or a “composition created by blending two or more pre-recorded songs, usually by overlaying the vocal track of one song seamlessly over the instrumental track of another,” that’s according to Mr. Webster.

The amazing mash-ups created in the Coca Cola Music Studio are the following:

“Bakit?” by Gloc-9 and “Picture Picture” by Tanya Markova

“Puso” by Sponge Gola and “Design 4 Luv” by Jay-R

“Jeepney Love Story” by Yeng Constantino and “FX” by Pedicab

“Mahal Kita” by Kyla and “Tila” by General Luna

You can watch these mash-ups here: http://musicstudio.coca-cola.com.ph/index.php/videos/vid-1305000345334/videos.html

The new Pinoy sounds created after these artists combined their hit songs were truly awesome! And because you can’t get enough of these mash-ups, the Coca-Cola Music Studio is back with a brand new season featuring a lot more OPM artists from different genres being paired each week! The show is called “Volume Up!”

And what’s in store this month? We have a super mash-up between two 4-man bands – Callalily and Kiss Jane!

Callalily is composed of Tatsi Jamnague, Aaron Ricafrente, Lemuel Belaro and lead vocalist Kean Cipriano. Kiss Jane, on the other hand, is composed of Sheila Rosete, Jeff de Castro, Heins Capiral and lead vocalist Jaq Dionisio.

In an interview by MYX’s VJ Janine, Kean said they’ve been longing to work with a female member and now it’s happening.

“Pangarap namin magkaroon ng kasamang babae sa banda, ngayon mangyayari na siya,” he said.

And Jaq, the lead vocalist of Kiss Jane, feels the same.

“I think it’s very fresh, it’s something to look forward to specially mga music lovers, feeling ko mag-e-enjoy sila na makita na we’re working together and sharing our music,” she said.

So to tease you a little bit of what’s going to happen, check out the music video for Callalily‘s “Liwanag”:

“Liwanag” is more of an empowerment song than a love song. It imparts encouragement to someone who’s hopelessly in the dark:

Yakapin mo ang bukas,
Malabo man ang landas,
Inaasam na liwanag iyong makakamtan.

And here is the music video for Kiss Jane‘s “Lagi”

The song has a more laid back melody with a romantic lyrics. It tells of a girl confessing her feelings for the guy who’s always on her mind:

lagi na lang
lagi na lang
lagi kang nasa isip ko
lagi na lang
lagi na lang
lagi kang nasa puso
Ko’y iyong-iyo
‘Wag hayaan na
masaktan
asahan mo di
magbabago
hanggang kailan

Quite intriguing right? The two songs differ not just with its melodies but also with its lyrics. The one talks about encouragement and the other confesses her feelings.

So do you think the mash-up of “Liwanag” and “Lagi” will work? Stay tuned!
