Andy Whitfield died today in Sydney, Australia.

Andy Whitfield, popularly known for his role in “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” on Starz, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma last March 2011 which prompted him to leave the show.

Statement says Whitfield died on a “sunny Sydney morning” in the “arms of his loving wife.”

He was 39.
