The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards to be Aired on Studio 23

Will first time nominees dominate this year's Emmy’s?

First timers stole the scene as they filled the roster of nominees in the much awaited “63rd Primetime Emmy Awards” to be aired on Philippine free TV via Studio 23 this Monday (Sept 19) at 9:30 PM.

Television’s brightest stars gather at the prestigious awarding ceremony, which will be hosted by ‘Glee’ lead star and Emmy-award winning actress Jane Lynch, and compete to be the best in various acting categories.

TV mini-series “Mildred Pierce” starring Kate Winslet leads all contenders with 21 nominations, while “Mad Men” topped all series with 19. “Boardwalk Empire” and “Modern Family” followed with 18 and 17 nominations respectively.

Among the first time nominees for the outstanding lead actor or actress in a comedy series are Melissa McCarthy (Mike & Molly), Martha Plimpton (Raising Hope), Laura Linney (The Big C), Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory), Matt LeBlanc (Episodes), and Louis C.K. (Louie). Other nominees are Edi Falco (Nurse Jackie), Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation), Tina Fey (30 Rock), Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory), Steve Carell (The Office), and Alec Baldwin (30 Rock).

For the outstanding lead actor or actress in a drama series category, first time nominees include Kathy Bates (Harry’s Law), Mireille Enos (The Killing), Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire), and Timothy Olyphant (Justified) who will compete against Michael Hall (Dexter), Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Hugh Laurie (House), Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men), Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights), Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order Special Victims Unit), and Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife).

Nearly half of the comedy’s and drama series’ nominees are also first timers such as “Boardwalk Empire,” “Game of Thrones” and “Friday Night Lights” for outstanding drama series, and “The Big Bang Theory” and “Parks and Recreation” for outstanding comedy series.

This year marks the first time that the Primetime Emmy Awards merged the mini-series and movie program categories that resulted in four nominations for mini-series and two for movies.
