‘Peter Pan: a Musical Adventure’ – Asian Premiere on September 30

The timeless tale about “the boy who never grew up” is reborn.

Come and join us on a thrilling musical journey to “ Never Land ” as Sir James Barrie’s classic legend is magically brought to life in the spectacular Asian premiere of “Peter Pan – A Musical Adventure” set to open on September 30, 2011 at the Meralco Theater.

The legend of Peter Pan has been delighting children for over 100 years. This faithful new version which will be first seen in Asia, promises to be a festive adventure with stunning scenery, show-stopping performances, swashbuckling sword fights, jaw dropping and breath-taking flying scenes.

Produced by Repertory Philippines and Stages Production Specialists, “Peter Pan – A Musical Adventure” with book by the late Willis Hall and music and lyrics by award-winning duo George Stiles and Anthony Drewe (Broadway’s “Mary Poppins” and “Honk!,” among other works) is a charm f a musical with its ability to generate a real sense of magic and wonder.

The musical opened in Denmark, Copenhagen in 1996 and won two top awards for Best Song (“When I Kill Peter Pan”) and The Orchestra’s Award at the International Musical Of The Year. The production was first broadcast in 2001 as a New Year’s Eve concert on BBC Radio 3 and was later presented at Festival Hall in the 2002-2003 Christmas period. Since then, Stiles & Drewe extensively revised the show for a stunning new production with its United Kingdom theatre premiere. In 2007-2008, the show played at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, directed by Rachel Kavanaugh and a year later, it moved to the West Yorkshire Playhouse.

The musical is set in bustling Edwardian suburbia, and the normality of a children’s nursery. The magic really starts with the ingenious introduction of Tinkerbell, a tiny dot of light zipping around and disrupting the toys. Peter and the Darling family are whisked away to the famous land full of colorful characters including the Lost Boys, Mermaids, Crocodile, Tiger Lily and, of course, the dastardly Captain Hook.

Theater stalwarts Jaime del Mundo and Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo shall sprinkle a touch of fairy dust and put together their creative artistry as co-directors of this musical. With an amazingly talented cast and production team, rehearsals for this year’s musical spectacular have commenced and the show is already starting to come together.

The all-star cast will have audiences hooked as Sam Concepcion marks his role as Peter Pan – an athletic young boy full of energy, commanding, yet sensitive leader of the Lost boys.

Michael Williams is Captain Hook, a delightfully evil character & nemesis to Peter. Jaime del Mundo is Mr. George Darling, a stern and unimaginative but loving father. Pinky Marquez is the gentle and caring mother, Mrs. Mary Darling.

Tippy Dos Santos and Cara Barredo alternate as Wendy Moira Angela Darling, the eldest of the Darling children. A very pleasant and charming girl who takes on role of “mother” to the lost boys.

Nacho Tambunting and Luigi Quesada play the role of John Darling, Wendy’s younger brother, a bookish young teen-ager who has always dreamed of being in a big adventure.

Juan Miguel Santos and Alessa Zialcita play the role of Michael Darling, the typical youngest child who doesn’t want to miss what everyone else is doing.

Robie Zialcita is Smee, Captain Hook’s comedic sidekick. A character in direct contrast to Hook in appearance and physical stature.

Kakki Teodoro is Tiger Lily – a cute, perky, willful princess of the Indian tribe.

Joy Virata is the older Wendy Darling and the play’s Narrator.

The Lost Boys of Never Land will be played by George Schulze, Kevin Concepcion, Jay Pangilinan, Bym Buhain, Justin Valiente, Nelsito Gomez, Hans Braga and Eric Mercado while the Pirates will be played by James Stacey, Hans Eckstein, Edu Briones, Meynard Peñalosa, Kuya Manzano, Chino Veguillas and Reymund Domingo.

Tinker Bell – a fairy, represented only by a tiny flashing light is played by Kyla Rivera. Her “dialogue” is only heard as tinkling music. She does not speak as we know it, and the other characters “translate” what she “says”.

“Peter Pan – A Musical Adventure” is a perfect treat for the whole family.

“Peter Pan – A Musical Adventure” shall run from September 30 – October 30, 2011 with shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and matinee shows on Saturdays and Sundays at 3:00 p.m. All performances are at the Meralco Theater, Ortigas Avenue, Pasig City.

The artistic and creative team of “Peter Pan” is led by Baby Barredo (Artistic Director), Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo (Associate Artistic Director), Audie Gemora (President of STAGES), Jaime del Mundo / Menchu Lauchengco- Yulo (Directors), John Batalla (Lighting Designer), Gino Gonzales (Set Designer), Raven Ong (Costume Designer).

“Peter Pan’s” production staff is composed of Gidget Tolentino (Production Manager) assisted by Jingay Kaimo of STAGES, Ayam Barredo (Company Manager), Ed Lacson (Stage Manager) and Adul Lasin (Set Execution and Scenic Artist).

The marketing, sales and publicity of “Peter Pan” is led by Toots Tolentino (PR & Publicity) and Gian Carlo Vizcarra (STAGES), with Rem Zamora, Ayam Barredo and Oliver Usison (PR & Publicity, Marketing), Carlo Orosa (Head of Marketing – STAGES), Cherry Bong Edralin (Sales – STAGES), Marie Talay and Rose Silva (Marketing & Sales) and Raul Montesa and Jojit Lorenzo (Photography).
