Hacienda Luisita – SC Ruled in Favor of Tenant Farmers

November 25, 2011 by · Comments Off

Hacienda Luisita, the vast agricultural estate owned by the family of President Benigno Aquino III, was ordered by the Supreme Court to be distributed to tenant farmers.

The high court’s decision was unanimous, 14-0, in a 56-page resolution penned by Associate Justice Presbitero Velasco and promulgated on November 23, Wednesday.

The Supreme Court stressed in the resolution that “control over agricultural lands must always be in the hands of the farmers” and pointed out that allowing the 6,296 beneficiaries to remain stockholders would never allow them “gain control given the present proportion of shareholdings.”

Arroyo Mug Shot is Photoshopped According to Sec. Robredo

November 25, 2011 by · Comments Off

Arroyo mug shot – real or photoshopped?

Arroyo Mug Shot

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is questioning the authenticity of the mug shots that made its way to various blogs and social networking sites, and even in broadsheets!

In fact, the Philippine Daily Inquirer published the controversial mug shot of the former President both in its online and print versions. However, they noted that it did not come from the Pasay City Regional Trial Court but was sent by someone who requested anonymity.

Chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome said there were discrepancies with the caption of the official mug shots and the published versions.

“I would like to state for the record that the published pictures are not the authentic mug shot photos of Rep. Gloria Arroyo,” Bartolome said in an interview by TV Patrol on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo said released a statement saying that the published Arroyo mug shots on newspaper and on the internet are fake.

According to reports, Robredo earlier said that the print on the unauthentic photos appeared to have been “photoshopped.”
