Renato Corona is Guilty! Senate Voted 20-3 in Favor of Conviction

Renato Corona, the country's Chief Justice, is charged guilty of violating Article 2. This is the verdict of the Senate Impeachment Court on Tuesday, May 29, after 5 months of trial.

The House of Representatives filed an impeachment complaint against Chief Justice Renato Corona last December 12, 2011 for violating Article 2 which states:

“RESPONDENT COMMITTED CULPABLE VIOLATION OF THE CONSTITUTION AND/OR BETRAYED THE PUBLIC TRUST WHEN HE FAILED TO DISCLOSE TO THE PUBLIC HIS STATEMENT OF ASSETS, LIABILITIES, AND NET WORTH AS REQUIRED UNDER SEC. 17, ART. XI OF THE 1987 CONSTITUTION.”

The Senate, sitting as an impeachment court on Tuesday, May 29, declared their votes after grueling five-month trial.

To convict Corona, two-thirds of the entire senate or sixteen votes are needed. If eight senators would say otherwise, the Chief Justice will be automatically acquitted.

Andun na tayo madaming gumagawa ng masama sa gobyerno eh kaso siya ang subject ng Impeachment trial therefore he should not claim his innoncence at the expense of others just like nung magkamal din siya ng yaman at the expense of the Filipino people.

  8. Corona deserved the verdict. He should uphold the law as chief magistrate but he shows examples of abuses. He is a consistent liars, and extremely arrogant. He was proven to be the Thief Injustice of SC. His removal ended the crisis in the judicial system. Congratulations to the Mighty Men of Valor with Fearless Courage in the House and Senate representatives.

  9. technically he’s not guilty, gaya ng pinaglalaban ni Sen Santiago..but napakasimple ng kaso..naging honest ba sya sa pagdeklara ng buong yaman nya? kung batas paiiralin panalo sya , pero kung moralidad ang titingnan, talo sya

  10. teh anung lapses ang sinasabi mo dun..hindi mo pwedeng tawaging lapses ang 2.4 million us dollar na yaman..(if im not mistaken with the value)at kung salitang honest ang pag-uusapan..ay dpat ginawa na nya noon pa..eh di panalo dapat sya.

  11. @ricky.you’re right..sbi ni alan peter cayetano..npaka simpleng bagay ng kaso ,,ginagawang kumplikado..

  14. if we will look at the case of Chief Justice Corona and do some critical thinking we can say that he is         “NOT GUILTY”

  15. so mean! respect others opinion we all have different stand on Coronas’ case!

  16. the 3 judges who voted not guilty are…let’s see….1-Santiago-she must be pissed off by the prosecutor panel…espcially the guy who covered his ears during the hearing…2-Marcos-came from a corrupt family….3-Joker-Arroyo-pangalan pa lang, alam mo na kasabwat ni corona and he’s only joking…

  22. I don’t live in the country (Phils.) for so long now, so, I don’t know exactly the truth & what really happened…? But, the way I look at it & my understanding … it seems unbelievable  where ALL his wealth comes from ??? These people who holds a higher & responsible position in our country are not at all Honest & Trustworthy..they’ll grab anything that they can get as much as they can (££££, $$$$$$$$, Pesos)…they thought that they’re invincible…that they can always stay in Power ??? Hope, it will serve as a warning to All Politicians, any person holding a responsible position whether in PRIVATE or PUBLIC sector… Be ashamed & be conscientious … good luck to you all.

  27. You are not being forced to vote them..This is a democratic country..you can do what you want.  INC will vote them ha ha ha!!!

  28. y dont you try to scrutinize the whole situation then hear the point of defensor-santiago….then youl be realized that corona should not be guilty at all

  29. CJ corona was voted guilty because he was honest to tell everyone his lapses in submitting his sal-in BUT NEVER BECAUSE THE PERSECUTION TEAM DID THEIR JOB WELL.. TAMAAN SANA ANG MGA CORRUPT NA SENADOR SA SINABI NI MADAM MD SANTIAGO..

  32. I will not vote for the 3 senators who voted not guilty for Corona.
