Kuya Kim Puts Pinoy Nationalism to Test in ‘Matanglawin’

Kuya Kim Atienza, together with Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Unlimited big winner Slater Young, gives viewers a free educational field trip to the Aguinaldo ancestral house as he discovers some of the country’s prized national symbols this Sunday (June 10) in the Independence Day Special of “Matanglawin.”

The country’s Trivia King shares bits of information about various Philippine emblems and symbols including the national flag. The Phillippine flag is so significant that the date of the country’s independence was moved from July 4 to June 12 when it was first unfurled in Kawit, Cavite by the country’s first president, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. Do Filipinos still value of these symbols or are they even aware it exist? Kuya Kim puts the ‘madlang people’ to test as he randomly asks them to sing the Philippine National Anthem.

While Kuya Kim tests Filipino nationalism, Slater explores the famous ‘Idependence balcony’ in the historic Aguinaldo Mansion, where Philippine independence was proclaimed. The historical house is said to have secret passages that can actually lead to the church in Kawit, Cavite.

Slater is also set to make history as he becomes the first ever celebrity guest to the Aguinaldo mansion who gets to go down to its bomb shelter.

“Matanglawin” is part of ABS-CBN “Bida Best Kid” campaign launched recently that aims to empower children by encouraging them to become who they want to be and the best that they can be. It doesn’t only entertain and educate its young viewers with its values-oriented, child-friendly programs, but supports their dreams and aspirations as well.
