Julie Anne San Jose is Still Open to the Idea of Auditioning for Miss Saigon

One of the life dreams of Julie Anne San Jose is to star in a Broadway musical. Now that Miss Saigon is going to be revived in 2013 and the producers are looking for the new "Lea Salonga" for the role of Kim, does the rising Kapuso star considers auditioning?

Two decades ago, Lea Salonga became the first Asian to win the prestigious Lawrence Olivier and Tony awards for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance as Kim in Miss Saigon. It opened the doors for other Filipino singers and actors to be cast in various musicals in Broadway and West End.

Next year, producer Cameron Mackintosh is bringing Miss Saigon back in London West End and he is hoping to find a new “Lea Salonga.” In this line, his production is holding auditions at the Opera House in Makati City this November 19 to 27 to find new cast-members for the award-winning musical. Even the non-Asian roles in the musical will be up for grabs in the Philippine auditions.

But it’s the highly-coveted role of Kim, the role that won for Lea Salonga an Olivier and Tony, that’s being under the radar. Some of the celebrities that netizens deemed perfect for the role are Rachelle Ann Go, Denise Laurel, Karylle, Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, and YouTube sensation Julie Anne San Jose.

During the contract signing and presscon for Julie Anne San Jose as new endorser of “Get Laud!” on Wednesday, October 17, at Ace Hotel and Suites in Pasig, the Kapuso star revealed that she is still open to the idea of auditioning for the role of Kim in Miss Saigon.

“I’m still planning and I’m still thinking about it nga po siyempre may mga pros and cons din dito di ba so hopefully, kasi ako naman, so far I’m trying naman po talaga,” she said.

“And One of my dreams po talaga is makapasok ng Broadway and makapag-try po ako ng musical man lang, ang ‘yung Miss Saigon parang sobrang malaking opportunity para po sa sino man ‘yung gaganap na Kim,” she added.

San Jose is being touted as the fastest-rising Kapuso star this year. Her debut album reached gold status in less than a month and her debut single topped various music charts like iTunes Phillippines, Pinoy MYX Countdown, MYX Hit Chart, among others. Her team-up with Elmo Magalona was also very successful and it paved way for her first starring roles on TV and the big screen not to mention various endorsement deals.

That’s why San Jose is thinking hard and praying if she will consider Miss Saigon as the next level of her career and simply plans to “cross the bridge” if she gets there.

“If ever po talaga mangyari yun, well I’ll just cross the bridge…kumbaga there’s no harm in trying naman, e,” she said.
