Alden Richards Looks Up to John Lloyd Cruz and Dingdong Dantes

Rising Kapuso heartthrob Alden Richards admits that he idolizes Kapamilya star John Lloyd Cruz and fellow Kapuso Dingdong Dantes and wants to emulate their work ethics to become an A-list actor like them.

Alden Richards has been noticed for his breakthrough performance in the critically-acclaimed horror movie “The Road” and his solid take on the role of Tisoy in the hit primetime series on GMA-7, “One True Love.” This so called “acting-streak” prompted some members of the press to tag him as GMA-7’s up-and-coming answer to ABS-CBN’s John Lloyd Cruz.

During a pocket presscon for Alden earlier today at GMA Network, Starmometer asked the young actor his thoughts on why he is being compared with the award-winning Kapamilya actor.

“Siguro po I always tell, I always say sa mga interviews ko that I look up to him, siya ‘yung parang idol ko talaga, i follow his style when it comes to acting and sobrang laki po ng influence sa akin ni John Lloyd Cruz as an actor.”

Although he has yet to meet the Kapamilya actor, Richards hopes to meet him and get the chance to work with him someday.

Aside from JLC, the “One True Love” star also looks up to Dingdong Dantes, which he calls “Kuya Dong.”

“Si Kuya Dingdong [Dantes], we’ve been very good friends after My Beloved. Sobrang dami kong natutunan sa kanya as a person and as an actor.

“Ang daming good qualities ni Kuya Dong ang nabaon ko up to now dala-dala ko siya like how to project good impression to people specially sa press, to writers, and ‘yung importance ng craft kay Kuya Dong is really nandun e, kung pa’no niya pinapahalagahan ang acting at mga projects na binibigay sa kanya, ‘yun yung parang wow, kailangan kong sundan ‘tong path na to so I can stay longer.

“Kuya Dong has been in the industry for so long and look where he is now, GMA King!”

ON THE SUCCESS OF ‘ONE TRUE LOVE’ AND HIS TANDEM WITH LOUISE DELOS REYES

Alden Richards and Louise delos Reyes first worked together in a TV commercial for “Fun Snack” years ago. Never did they imagine that they will be reunited on GMA Network to become a love team in “Alakdana” and later in the hit drama series “One True Love.”

His chemistry with Louise delos Reyes is one of the factors why “One True Love” became a TV ratings success. Alden shares the reason why their love team clicked and became a hit among televiewers.

“Because everything about Louise and I is organic, not too thick, hindi pinilit lang for the sake of love teams.

“‘Yung thought na kapag love teams you need to have something off-cam, maging sweet kayo kahit fake. We’re just really really good friends.

“Kami ni Louise we understand each other in a way na kami lang ‘yung nakakaalam at kami lang ‘yung nagkakaintindihan. Not even our parents can distinguish kung ano ‘yung pinag-uusapan namin on our own.

“Siguro that’s the key. Suggest ko rin sa ibang love teams na don’t force it if it’s not you kasi hindi lalabas ‘yung natural na relationship between the two of you.

“Kasi sometimes ‘pag inassociate yung personal sa professional, it gets affected and sometimes hindi maganda ‘yung effect so I suggest, maintain the professionalism but always distinguish what’s right between the two of you and what’s comfortable, and that will work.

Alden also shares that there are lot of things that he admires from Louise.

“Si Louise ano ‘yan e, sobra siyang passionate when it comes to her craft as an actress. Sobrang God-fearing, ‘yung care niya sa family niya nan’don.

“And sobra siyang down-to-earth and the way she treats me and other people is really admirable kasi hindi siya ‘yung tipo na ‘yung nararating niya, she started kasi as a child star, so ‘yung mga naa-achieve niya up to this point, you’ll never see it projects to her character. She’s humble and grounded and that’s admirable.”

Aside from their tandem’s screen chemistry, Alden discovered via the teleserye “One True Love” that he can break into tears.

“Wow, marunong pala akong umiyak!

“That has been my reluctancy before I started showbiz sabi ko kapag may nababasa na ako sa script na maluluha ang character ko, I got pressured and sometimes mas nauuna pa ‘yung pressure kesa sa kailangan kong gawin sa eksena pero since we started the workshops under GMA Artist Center with Direk Maryo J, that’s when I learned na everything should come from a relax state of mind.”

Alden Richards‘ next TV project is the epic historical drama on GMA-7 with the working title “Indio” where he will play the role of Malaya. The upcoming teleserye boasts of a powerhouse cast led by Sen. Ramon Bong Revilla Jr. Shooting for Indio begins this November.

The Kapuso heartthrob is also currently filming two MMFF movies: The fantasy-adventure “Si Enteng, Si Agimat at Si Ako” starring Vic Sotto, Bong Revilla and Judy Ann Santos, and the romantic comedy “Sossy Problems” where he will be paired with Bianca King.
