Grace Poe vs Samson Alcantara in ‘Harapan 2013’

Senatorial candidates Grace Poe-Llamanzares and lawyer Samson Alcantara face off tomorrow (April 16) in ANC’s election program “Harapan 2013” anchored by veteran journalist Lynda Jumilla.

Though both of them are neophytes in the legislative arena, Poe is backed by no less than President Noynoy Aquino and takes advantage of the name of her late father Fernando Poe Jr, while Alcantara, a 77-year-old professor, is an independent candidate and is virtually unknown to the public. As a co-founder and member of the Social Justice Society, his advocacies include equal opportunities and rights for all. He also says he wants to be an alternative choice for voters who are tired of political dynasties. Poe, on the other hand, says she is committed to poverty alleviation since it was her father’s social covenant. How will she defend herself from critics who blast her for allegedly exploiting her father’s name?

“HARAPAN 2013” is part of ABS-CBN’s “Halalan 2013,” the election coverage of the country’s largest and most trusted broadcast news organization that was launched a year before the elections to educate voters who are set to elect a new batch of government leaders.
