Are you one of the 10 million Filipino netizens who have a Twitter account? Are you a Twitaholic, someone who can't live a day without tweeting? Then here's good news for you!

The Philippines has been recognized as one of the world’s social media capitals, ranking 10th in the list of countries with the most number of Twitter users despite the fact that only 30% of the population have access to the internet. Aside from that, we are one of the most active in Twitter universe as we can easily put any topic on the world’s trending box.

Filipinos have always been active in social media since the invention of the SMS phone. Now that Smartphones are everywhere, we are also increasingly using mobile phones to tweet and read tweets according to a recent study.

Although we also love using Facebook as a way of connecting to our friends and loved ones, we tend to use Twitter more when it comes to conversations and connecting to like-minded individuals. Specially if you’re looking for real-time public discussions, Twitter beats Facebook or any other social media applications.

On Twitter, if I want to catch up on the latest showbiz happenings, breaking news, fashion trends or sports events, I can do so with just a couple of keystrokes in the Twitter search field and you’ll get the scoop first even before they hit television.

These are the reasons why I like Twitter more and why I belong to the 10 million Filipinos who are into this micro blogging platform. And yes I confess, I’m also a Twitaholic!

As for the good news that I’ve said earlier, the title pretty much gave it away.

Smart is offering free access to Twitter on your mobile phone until July 31, 2013. That means you can tweet all you can, day or night or even 24 hours, without worrying for data charges. Just go to http://www.m.twitter.com on your mobile browser and NOT the Twitter app on your mobile. Data network should be turned on to enable the free access but make sure not to click on outbound links or open other applications that requires data to avoid charges while you are connecting to the internet. Set your homepage URL to a free site like http://www.smart.com.ph/ to avoid redirecting to other sites upon opening your browser.
