For better commitment to public service, Rescue 5 has now strengthened their partnership with the Philippine Air Force, and is an affiliated reserve unit.

Rescue5, the Emergency Response Unit of TV5, signed a MOA with the Philippine Air Force last July 10 at the Hall of Flags in Villamor Airbase, with the former signing the agreement that they are to become an affiliated reserve unit of the Philippine Air Force, designated as the 500th Search and Rescue Group Reserve.

The move further strengthens Rescue5’s commitment to “cause journalism,” combining broadcast innovations and public service to deliver news that takes action, with the team actively covering and responding to emergency and disaster situations.

“We are also very grateful to accept the appointment of Rescue 5, the emergency response unit of News 5, as an affiliated reserve unit of the Phil. Air Force,” said TV5 President and CEO, Noel Lorenzana. “As you know, we in TV5 pride ourselves in delivering real public service. We don’t just deliver news, but also real public service on the streets. As such, we are very proud of the men and women of Rescue 5 not only in terms of their delivery of selfless service especially during calamities, but also in the recognition we have received.” Lorenzana said that this appointment only pushes them more, not only to live up to the expectations of the public, and the air force, but also expectations of themselves in TV5, in trying to continue the legacy that the team has started in delivering public service in the streets, as well as reliable news.

“Basically we operate in the same concept, and so it won’t be hard for us to carry on with our individual jobs while delivering one common purpose for our country,” said LtGen. Lauro Catalino G. Dela Cruz, AFP, on their reasons for the tie-up. “We look forward to a very strong partnership as we look after the common good of our country, and our fellowmen.”

Signatories of the MOA were TV5 President and CEO Noel Lorenzana, and News5 head Luchi Cruz-Valdes, as well as Philippine Air Force Commanding General LtGen Lauro Catalino G. dela Cruz, and Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) Commander, BGen William P. Turalde. Rescue 5 host, Paolo Bediones, as well as Rescue 5 segment host, Manu Sandejas, also attended. Also present during the signing were TV5 Head of Legal Atty. Christine Ona, Corporate Communications Head Peachy Guioguio, News Operation Head DJ Sta. Ana, and Public Service Head Sherryl Yao.

Rescue 5 is the pioneer in the Philippines, and as cited by CNN, probably the first in the world, in equipping reporters and cameramen in emergency medical service, and other lifesaving skills. Aside from covering, Rescue 5 provides immediate assistance to people in distress during emergencies and disasters. To prepare for the rainy season, the Rescue 5 team undergoes refresher courses to prepare them for flood rescue operations.

The Philippine Air Force said that they were glad with the partnership, since a private institution would be performing public service. They said that both parties involved would be strengthening their resources to provide one important service to the country, which is rescue during times of crisis. This is especially important, since the Philippines is prone to disasters, such as typhoons and earthquakes. With the partnership, both Rescue 5 and the PAF would have a greater chance of succeeding in their endeavors.
