Armenian Street Heritage Hotel Officially Opens

The UNESCO World Heritage Site of George Town in Penang today welcomes the latest addition to its hotel accommodation offering for tourists and visitors with the grand opening of the Armenian Street Heritage Hotel by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

The ceremony was attended by Group CEO of Tune Hotels, Mark Lankester and Armenian Street Heritage Hotel Directors Dato’ Yong Chai Seng, Datin Lau Geok Choon, Dr Koh Hwa Cheah, Dato’ Ting Tin Siang and Dato’ Kelvin Leng. Also present was Penang Executive Councillor for Tourism Mr Danny Law.

The opening comes in timely as the country celebrates Visit Malaysia Year 2014, the biggest and grandest tourism celebration with Malaysia Truly Asia’s endless wonders of events, festivals and activities all-year round.

The hotel is strategically located within the Core Zone of the George Town heritage site, which together with the historical city of Melaka were declared world heritage sites by UNESCO in 2008, in recognition of their unique status as multicultural heritage communities, fostering and benefiting from the rich cultural exchanges between East and West.

The Armenian Street Heritage Hotel is one of more than 1,700 buildings that stand within the Core Area of the World Heritage Site. Offering guests an experience of the old world charm hospitality, the Armenian Street Heritage Hotel features a viewing deck on the top floor, allowing guests to enjoy the scenery of almost the entire heritage area right up to the coast line of the Penang island.

The hotel also serves as an extension of the George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI) office, which is located right next to the hotel. GTWHI will have the largest model of the heritage area to be displayed at an area covering 1,500 sq. ft. on the second floor of the Armenian Street Heritage Hotel. The gallery will be open to tourists, members of the public and anyone who would like to learn more about George Town World Heritage Site.
