Entrepreneur Saved Family Business by Inventing Ube Hopia

Broadcast journalist Karen Davila details how businessman Gerry Chua saved his family’s business by creating and popularizing ube hopia in the country this Wednesday (Jan 27) in “My Puhunan.”

Hopia

Gerry is the owner of Eng Bee Tin Chinese Deli in Bonondo, Manila that is known for innovating delicious Chinese delicacies and Filipino treats here and abroad.

At 21 years old, Gerry took over his family’s business and used everything his grandfather taught him to produce his soon-to-be-famous ube hopia, an invention that would later on make him a mega-millionaire.

Now, Eng Bee Tin produces 4,000 pieces of hopia a day and has become one of the country’s biggest exporters of hopia.

Karen will also feature Joy Lim’s popular “Charms and Crystals,’ the country’s most sought-after shop of personalized lucky charms that caters to celebrities, businessmen, and even politicians.

In “Mutya ng Masa” tomorrow (Jan 28), Doris Bigornia grants the one and only wish of a pandesal vendor to meet and greet his idols, Piolo Pascual and Toni Gonzaga.
