MMFF 2014 – ‘Bonifacio’ and ‘English Only Please’ Dominate the Awards

MMFF 2014 Awards Night proved to be 'unbiased' this year as the deserving films, regardless of their box office performance, emerged as the big winners. Underdogs "Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo" and "English Only Please" lead this year's honorees.

MMFF

It looks like there’s no controversy happening from this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival as all the winners are deemed deserving of their trophies. Unlike in previous years where box office performance of the films has a factor in winning the awards, this year, the underdogs emerged victorious.

Historical drama “Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo” was named Best Picture followed by the only romantic-comedy entry this year–“English Only Please”–as 2nd Best Film. “Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles” was deserving too, of its 3rd Best Film award by virtue of the rave reviews it received from critics.

I also agree that the Best Actor plum went to Derek Ramsay and the Best Actress trophy went to Jennylyn Mercado.

  1. undicided :D // January 3, 2015 at 11:33 am //

grabe naman ang Bonifacio: ang unang pangulo at ang English only please hinakot ang mga awards this year. Honestly mga trailers lang nila napanood ko, and I thought ang mag stand out ay yung amazing Braybeyt at feng shui 2 yun bala hindi. nakaka shock nga ee . kc solid #kapamilya ako ee. pero tama naman yung sinasabi nila ee, na hindi lahat umuikot sa isang bagay lamang, ika nga “everything will change” 🙂

  2. Congrats Nadine Lustre 🙂
    #JaDine

  3. super gamda ng english only please laftrip lahat ng tao nun nanuod kmi kagbi..

By the way, congrats sa mga nanalong palabas , well-deserving silang manalo, at panoorin.

  5. common sense // December 29, 2014 at 5:01 pm //

Kaya nga may separate. Blockbuster award diba? May mga professional critics yan. Lol

Face Of The Night: Nadine Lustre!!!!!!!!!!!! Ganda mo talaga!!!! Love ya!!!!

  7. That’s how we act not as true Filipinos. As we compare pinoy nuon at pinoy ngayon is ibang-iba. We are always go for sikat and magaling. We just dont really understand tunay na magaling. Even politician we go for sikat, popular and so on and so fort. What happen our country now? People just simply over reacting without fully knowing/understand whats really happening.

I am not with, abs,gma nor tv5 or tv personalities from them.
Tunay na magaling ay nasa puso yun at tamang pag.isip..Kaya i salute all the judges for MMFF,you done a great job and great decisions.
Payo ko lang sa lahat na bumabasa, before leaving a word to someone, just think it over baka babalik sa inyong mga sarili ang ibinato ninyo sa iba..

Jennylyn deserves the win than any other actress nominated.

  9. congrats Bebe deej <3 at kuya Robs and also tito Rommel and Hahahahahahaha si Nadinr Panga Face of the night ??? Hahaha ginayuma ata judges tsaka nabulag ata hahahahahaha hindi nmn talaga maganda si Nadine no ! So jawful hahaha laftrep men XD patawa yun

Hay!! You won’t get me!

  12. Galing ni ate nadz :* congrats teh Nadya!!! <3

  13. in my opinion ito yung ranking ng movies accdg to quality and plot.

    Bonifacio
    English Only Please
    Muslim Magnum
    Kubot
    Feng Shui 2
    SRR
    Praybeyt Benjamin 2
    My Big Bossings

  14. KUNG SINASABING PINAGBIGYAN LANG ANG BONIFACIO AT ENGLISH ONLY, HUWAW NAMAN SA INYO! TRY NIYO KAYANG PANOORIN LAHAT NG ENTRIES. SABAGAY GANYAN NAMAN TAYONG MGA PILIPINO, HINDI TAYO MAPANURI SA ATING MGA GINAGASTOS. BASTA MASABING NASA TREND TAYO AT SIKAT, DUN NA NATIN PAGTUTUUSAN ANG GASTUSIN NATIN.

KAYA IKAW, KUNG GAGASTOS KA NA RIN LANG SA SINEHAN, SIGURADUHIN MONG YUNG MAY MAKABULUHAN. AT AYAN NILABAS NA ANG HUSGA NG MGA HURADO SA MMFF, PILIIN MO NA ANG MAGANDA AT WORTH IT PANOORIN.

  15. Best MMFF Awards yet // December 28, 2014 at 4:18 pm //

I already watched Praybeyt Benjamin, Kubot, Bonifacio, Feng Shui 2, English Only Please, and My Big Bossings. And of all the movies I watched, Bonifacio and English Only, Please really standout.

Feng Shui 2, Praybeyt Benjamin, and My Big Bossings may have the biggest revenues for the festival, but these three films lack substance that a film must contain.

  16. NOW, ANG TATLO DI NAGSUBMIT NG ENTRY FOR BEST—- TO GIVE WAY SA MGA NEW NOMINEES..HINDI YUN DAHIL SA KADAHILANANG HINDI MAGANDA AT QUALITY ANG FILM NILA…—–can’t help but laugh to this comment…ano itong award giving body ” submit your entries and you will win by drawing by lot?” sometimes people giving comments that are so pathetic…but what can we do, this is a free country…so I am free to laugh out loud..

  17. Just my two cent…those films they regard as ” Flop” but are of good quality have a luckluster office because their filmakers are not making any ad about it. I know a lot of people who watched Vice or Kris movie because every minute you can find their pluggings on tv. Awards are not pampalubag loob..com’n guys sino ang gusto nyong mging best actress? si kris? her facial expressions are kinda the same in all scenes and the way she screams irritate me a lot…The winners are well deserved. For those who question the winners, why not watch their movie and be the better judge before you say anything…hindi kayu binabayaran ng network na yan bat kayu parang lageng galit…let us show to these filmmakers who make “pangit” films and rely much on the name of the stars to make money that wait- we need more than what we deserve” good and quality fims”.

  18. Dela Rosa Ralfred // December 28, 2014 at 11:55 am //

    Congrats Nadine Lustre <3

  21. Ranielle Gaudi // December 28, 2014 at 11:06 am //

It’s not about network war nor the popularity of the artists. It’s not even about the quantity or paramihan ng moviegoers, or fans.
Best picture means best quality film, kompletos rekados, ika nga. It comprises the whole story, the plot, etc This also goes to the other major and minor awards, where the acting prowess, the execution of each film, screenplay, its impact to the audience. I’m glad the jurors or the award-giving body have come to realize that. For me, all MMFF ’14 winners were all deserving!

  22. IWASTO NATIN YUN….FENGSHUI, PRIVATE BENJMN AND MY BOSSING WASN’T INCLUDED SA AWARDS KASI THEY WERE AWARDED IN PREVIOUS YEAR NA SILA ANG HUMAKOT..SO NOW, ANG TATLO DI NAGSUBMIT NG ENTRY FOR BEST—- TO GIVE WAY SA MGA NEW NOMINEES..HINDI YUN DAHIL SA KADAHILANANG HINDI MAGANDA AT QUALITY ANG FILM NILA…..

  23. Maka-comment lng // December 28, 2014 at 10:48 am //

  31. FOOD for Thought sa iyo Juday

Marami nang awards ang ABS CBN long before Jennylyn or Derek have their first awards.

  32. at bakit wawa ABS? The ABS CBN execs must be grinning ear to ear by now dahil unsurpassed ang kinita ng 2 nilang pelikula.

  35. LangKokontra o_O // December 28, 2014 at 12:09 am //

THIS IS THE WORST MMFF AWARDS NIGHT EVER!!!
UNFAIR NAMAN DUN SA IBANG MOVIES NA MALAKI ANG GINASTOS TAPOS IISA O DADALAWANG PELIKULA LANG ANG MAY NAKUKUHANG AWARDS!
AT KUNG ANO PANG MOVIES ANG MABABA ANG KITA SILA PA ANG NAKAHAKOT NG MGA AWARDS.SO UNFAIR!!!
