TV5 Wins Big at Gawad Tanglaw 2015

TV5’s bold move of changing the game with its revolutionary news, sports, and entertainment programming pays off as the Happy Network bags top honors from the academe-based Gawad Tanglaw Awards this year.

News5, the network’s news and information arm, is the big winner in the news and public affairs category, with its flagship program “Aksyon” hailed as Best News Program. The Best News Program Anchors (female and male) went to News5 Chief Luchi Cruz-Valdes (for Aksyon, tied with ANC’s Bernadette Sembrano) and Lourd de Veyra (for the morning news “Aksyon “sa Umaga”), respectively.

For the public affairs category, News5 won Best Public Affairs Program for the late night news magazine program, “Reaksyon”, also hosted by Valdes, while the Best Public Service Program went to “T3: Enforced” anchored by Tulfo brothers Ben, Erwin and Raffy.
Moreover, News5’s “Aksyon sa Umaga” was also named Best Morning Program (tied with UNTV’s “Good Morning, Kuya”).

Meanwhile, Martin Escudero won Best Actor for TV5’s groundbreaking drama “Positive,” the first series in the country to directly deal with the subject of HIV/AIDS ((tied with Piolo Pascual and Coco Martin).

The Best Game Show award goes to “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire,” the network’s longest-running game show hosted by Vic Sotto, while the Best Reality Talent Show goes to “Talentadong Pinoy”, with new hosts Robin Padilla, Mariel Rodriguez and Tuesday Vargas (tied with “The Voice of the Philippines)

A special award goes to Sports5, whose top-rating coverage of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup was among the three winners of the Developmental Communication Award for Comprehensive Coverage.

TV5 extends its gratitude to the academe behind Gawad Tanglaw for the recognition. These accolades strengthen TV5’s positioning as the Happy Network that offers innovative and aspirational news, public affairs, sports and entertainment programming. For News5, these honors affirm its “Higit sa Balita, Aksyon” branding, signifying that journalism need not stop in news reporting, it may also take action and inspire action for positive change.

    Why does Briggs always hallucinate? Akala ko well-informed. Nangunguna nga ang ABS-CBN sa Gawad Tanglaw, at kulelat ang GMA7 nya.
