Premier network The Filipino Channel (TFC) recently joined thousands of overseas Filipinos (OFs) in Hong Kong to celebrate the 117th Philippine Independence, via the “Kapangyawan Friendship Festival” on June 14 at the Chater Road, Central in Hong Kong.

The term “Kapangyawan,” coined from the Cantonese word that means ‘friend,’ was a whole day event that hoped to propagate both the Philippine culture in Filipinos’ chosen, second homes and keep the community together.

During the one-day event, some of the Philippines’ hottest stars led by Kapamilya singing icon and ‘Dynamic Diva’ Vina Morales showcased a sample of the Filipino’s world-class talent. Morales performed some of the best 90’s hits including the iconic theme song of the current teleserye remake of the same title, “Pangako Sa’yo.”

Much to the delight of the Filipino fans, Morales demonstrated herself how Kapamilyas can download the newest TFC.tv HK app from the Google playstore on their mobile devices, in her native Visayan language. Fans of the ‘Dynamic Diva’ were all the more drawn to choose TFC as the content of their choice for some of the news programs and top-rate entertainment shows and Kapamilya stars as their preferred ‘companion’ because like Morales, TFC spoke their language.

According to ABS-CBN Global Managing Director for Asia-Pacific Ailene Averion, every opportunity to be with overseas Filipinos and communities is important. Averion said, “TFC values every Filipino audience so we reach out to them in every way possible and these community gatherings are one of them. It is an honor to become part of these avenues where we can propagate the Filipino culture even when they are outside the homeland and enable them to connect with fellow Filipinos.

Averion added “As the network truly in the service of the Filipino, TFC will be in every part of the world wherever there is a Filipino. We also customize our products and services so we can cater to Pinoys’ specific programming needs, according to the lifestyle they choose,” Averion concluded.

Joining Morales, were former “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate Tom Rodriguez, and “3-in-1” host and comedienne K Brosas who partied with the Pinoys in the Fragrant Harbour. Rodriguez serenaded the Filipino fans during the event while Brosas delivered witty antics and performed current hits as well, much to the crowd’s delight.

The stars were not the only Filipinos who added color to the event as the Philippine foreign service post headed by Consul General Bernardita Catalla joined the festivities while some of the Filipino communities and organizations in Hong Kong, , paraded different Philippine national costumes and performed cultural presentations via Sayaw Pinoy, which showcased regional dances and traditions. These organizations include: kids from Section Juan, PCADE Tinikling Chapter, Mindanao HK Workers Association who performed a Muslim dance called Pagapir, and the Mindanao Migrant Alliance who performed the Kadayawan of Davao.
