2015 US Open Airs on Balls

Top-seed and women’s world number one Serena Williams begins her quest for a calendar year Grand Slam as the fourth and final tennis major of the year, the 2015 US Open, goes underway this September at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.

After winning the Australian Open, the French Open and Wimbledon this year, Williams is poised to become the first female player since Steffi Graf in 1988 to win all 4 Grand Slam titles in one calendar year.

Looking to spoil Serena’s bid for tennis immortality are second-seed Simona Halep from Romania, fourth-seed Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark, and fifth-seed Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic.

At the Men’s Singles Draw, defending champion and ninth-seed Marin Cilic began his campaign for a second US Open title with a straight-set win against Argentina’s Guido Pella in the first round.  Meanwhile, the big 5 of the Men’s Draw namely top-seed Novak Djokovic, second-seed Roger Federer, third-seed Andy Murray, fifth-seed Stan Wawrinka and eigth-seed Rafael Nadal are all accounted for and ready to give Cilic a run for his money.
