In a recent blogcon, Aicelle Santos announced the release of her latest EP entitled “Liwanag.”

Self-produced and in partnership with Jay-R’s Homeworkz Records, the EP has been released online and the CD will be available in record bars nationwide this month.

Here are the excerpts of our interview with Aicelle:

On the concept of “Liwanag”:

“It speaks of love, life and hope. There are songs that tackle romantic love, and pwedeng you can look at it na ibang klaseng love din pero definitely Liwanag is very positive and the songs are inspiring. Hindi ko rin ma-classify yung genre ng music pero makaka-relate kayo e, hindi siya deep, very singable. I wrote Liwanag, then yung 5 songs pinasa ko ito sa mga kaibigan kong composers. Nilagay ko yung theme and siyempre para ma-unify yung mga compositions, yung arrangements have piano and strings in them. So iyun ‘yung maririnig niyo sa buong album.”

On being hands on in the production of her album:

“For the first printing may 3,000 CDs kami so as in nakikibuhat din ako nung mga boxes, tapos nag-iinsert na ako nung mga postcards, ang dami talaga. First day was 250, second day was 500, it was all me, like the printing. Magandang pagdaanan yung proseso kasi lalo mong minamahal ‘yung ginagawa mo.”

On Upcoming Projects:

“Theater wala pa sa ngayon pero we’re definitely running ‘Rak of Aegis’ in mid 2016.”

On writing songs as an artist:

“Mas malaki ‘yung ako regardless kung magugustuhan ng tao ‘yung song. You’ll just be like another artist if you think of ay magugustuhan nila ito. Bakit mo sasabihing magugustuhan nila ito, kasi ‘yun yung narinig na nila before.”

Aicelle Santos: To Compromise or Not

“Kailangan mong timplahin, not to the point na you’re sacrificing you’re artistry so ako naman, ‘yung music ko, di naman siya sobrang lalim ano, I think kaya namang intindihin ito ng normal na tao. When I say artistry siguro yung mensahe na dala dala mo kasi di ba uso sa atin ngayon puro love songs, kapag may ibang topic baka hindi na pansinin. And this Liwanag song is not a love song, it’s not.”

On her TV roles:

“Ang sarap ng may iba ibang roles like itong sa ‘Buena Familia’ kontrabida ang role ko and there are scenes that I will slap Julie, ganyan, yung mga ganun sabi ko ‘uy ang saya nito a’ kasi ano siya e, liberating e, you don’t get to do it everyday.”
