Filipino Cinema Takes Center Stage at FACINE’s 23rd Annual Filipino International Cine Festival

The 23rd Annual Filipino International Cine Festival kicks-off with opening ceremonies that started on October 18 at the Diego Rivera Theater, City College of San Francisco. The annual festival presents works by and/or about the Filipino, and promotes the interest of cinema from the Philippines and the Filipino diaspora.

Festival screenings take place from October 19 to 22 at the Roxie Theater in San Francisco. Nine feature-length films and four short films will be screened.

These include: (Top, L-R) Ari, Aswe, Barber’s Tales, Dahling Nick, Echorsis, Komikero Chronicles; (2nd Row, L-R)  Kusina, Laut, Oda sa mga Nangangarap, Pamilya Ordinaryo, The Little Reader, and Vampariah.

The 23rd Annual Filipino International Cine Festival is co-presented by FACINE, PAWA Inc, Inquirer.net, Philippine Studies Department of City College of San Francisco, and TFC.

City of Carson Celebrates the Life and Times of FilAm Farm Labor Union Leader Larry Itliong on October 22

The City of Carson holds the 7th ANNUAL LARRY ITLIONG DAY CELEBRATION on October 22, Saturday, at theVeterans’ Park in Carson, California, in honor of Larry Itliong, who began the Great Delano Grape Strike in 1965.  The celebration starts with a parade at 9:00 a.m., followed by a program at 10:00 a.m. Admission is free.

THE FIL-AM SHOW: HALO-HALO AT SARI-SARI features an inter-generational lineup of performers and artists that highlights the rich contributions of Filipinos in America over the years.

Filipino music icon and former TFC ambassador Gary Valenciano headlines the show, together with his son, Gab Valenciano.  Joining them are AJ Rafael, Andrew Garcia, Arianny Celeste, Brian Puspos, Brian Viloria, Cookies, Devotion, Drop N Harmony, Jocelyn Enriquez, JR Aquino, Kai, Liane V, Mama Bares, Manny Streetz, Masta Plann, Pinay, and Tim Atlas.

Experience world-class performances and gastronomic treats in this concert-cum-expo on Sunday, October 23, at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles, CA.  Doors open at 4:00 p.m., concert starts at 6:00 p.m.
