Top 10 Favorite Love Teams

They may or may not be together, but these tandems know how to burn the red carpet, wear the most glamorous ensemble and bring the perfect date.

Warm the chandeliers and chill the liquor, it’s the entertainment industry’s most anticipated night. For the last 10 years, the Star Magic Ball has become a much-awaited “magical night” in showbizness. Last October 22, around 300 celebrities under the ABS-CBN talent management strut their stuff at the Makati Shangri-La for a night that made waves on social media. Like the events of years past, the Star Magic Ball 2016 didn’t disappoint in terms of  couple sightings. Aside from glamorous gowns and suits, we spotted 10 love teams who made us gush and take notice.  They might be wearing black and white, but these tandems made the red carpet sizzle. So without further ado, here’s a list of our 10 favorites:

LIZA SOBERANO & ENRIQUE GIL

Enrique Gil in Francis Libiran / Grooming by Kusie Ho

When this couple walked in, they immediately stole and kept everyone’s attention. Fresh from the hit soap opera Dolce Amore, Liza and Enrique were the hottest loveteam during the ball. Last year, Liza went to the ball as a princess, this time around, she arrived as a queen donning a dove gray Michael Cinco creation, barely there makeup and piece-y hair.

Liza’s look was so mesmerizing she bagged the coveted Best Dressed award that night. The couple screams sophistication in all levels and we’re not the only ones raving. Liza even became a social media trending topic during and after the ball, with celebrities, fashion enthusiasts, and netizens dubbing the event as ‘The Liza Soberano Ball.’

This is the third time LizQuen graced the Star Magic Ball together, but they have yet to announce their official status. Recently, Enrique confirmed that the relationship has leveled up and they are treating each other like a couple despite the lack of formality. We suspect things will become official soon!

KATHRYN BERNARDO   & DANIEL PADILLA

Daniel Padilla in Francis Libiran & Joey Samson / Styling by Ton Lao / Grooming by Ryan Ko

Last year, they went for complimentary white ensemble and continued to dress in similar colors this year. The result: KathNiel as an epitome of classic elegance with Kathryn’s strapless beaded gown with a front slit and Daniel’s all-black Francis Libiran and Joey Samson suit. They came from a recent MEGA magazine cover trip to Iceland and admit they love each other and are “exclusively dating.”

Aside from a string of high-rating teleseryes, this tandem is elevating the magic to the silver screen, especially after the success of Barcelona: A Love Untold where they shared their first onscreen kiss. Did Kathryn enjoy the smooch? She said Daniel was a good kisser and guided her while doing the deed. While there’s no official announcement yet, the two will be doing another project together soon. This couple has definitely grown up a lot since their first Star Magic Ball together in 2012.

XIAN LIM & KIM CHIU

Kim Chiu in Val Taguba / Hair by Jerry Javier / Makeup by Albert Kurniawan /Styling  by Team Rain X Em
Xian Lim in Francis Libiran / Styling by Ton Lao / Grooming by Karen Bautista

Kim and Xian, dubbed KimXi, have been attending the Star Magic Ball together since 2012 and have become perennial red carpet favorites. This year, we saw this couple spice things up a bit in the style department. Kim normally opted for beaded pastel gowns but this time around, she donned a fierce and edgy beaded Val Taguba creation, while Xian strutted along with a laidback look.

Xian has been consistently affectionate of the Chinita beauty and constantly makes grand gestures when asking her to the Ball. The most recent was when he hung a personalized “Will You Be My Date?” banner drawn with hearts on Kim’s front gates days before the event. Kim is set to reunite with ex-boyfriend Gerald Anderson for upcoming teleserye Ikaw Lang Ang Iibigin. Xian’s reaction? He’s cool with it and says they already reached an understanding.

RYLE PAOLO TAN AND BARBIE IMPERIAL

Barbie Imperial in Patty Ang / Make up by Effie Inigo

Our last week’s cover stars clarified that they are only “really, really good friends” but have posted intriguing social media pictures together. After all, they do spend a lot of time in It’s Showtime as Ryle is a member of dance group #Hashtag while Barbie is part of all-female group GirlTrends. That’s probably just one of the many similarities between the two. But either way, no one is confirming any relationship status. Barbie’s gown for the night was a simple off-shoulder piece by Patty Ang while Ryle wore a Jot Losa and Jomar Dela Rosa suit. Their red carpet looks perfectly captured their relationship: muted but perfectly synchronized.

YLONA GARCIA & BAILEY MAY

Ylona Garcia in Val Taguba / Hair by Julius Villanueva / Makeup by Anthea Bueno / Styling by Myrrh Lao To
Bailey May in Bang Pineda / Grooming by Jenjen Cabriana / Styling by Jefferson Patacsil

It’s their second year together at the Star Magic Ball. Dubbed BaiLona, this loveteam has been popular since their stint as PBB teen housemates. Both born and bred outside the Philippines, the couple starred in film thriller film Bloody Crayons and became interpreters of O’ Pag-ibig, a popular song that got awards at this year’s Himig Handog. The young Kapamilya stars have been hanging out for a while now and Bailey has even called Ylona his “one and only.” On the red carpet, this couple is a headturner—thanks to Ylona’s white Val Taguba gown that matched Bailey’s stylized tux from Bang Pineda. They look blooming, young, and very elegant.

MCCOY DE LEON & ELLISE JOSSON

Elisse Joson in Francis Libiran  / Styling by Patty Yap / Makeup by Mark Qua / Hair by  Aries Manal
Mccoy De Leon in Pepsi Herrera  / Styling by Patty Yap / Grooming by Manuel Majarucon

This loveteam made their Star Magic Ball debut together, but made it a memorable one. Elisse was awarded the Beautiful Belle of the Night. Her prom-perfect off-white ribbon gown by Francis Libiran was simple but sweet. Complementing her looks is #Hashtags member McCoy in a Pepsi Herrera suit. The PBB trending sweethearts looked charming and promising in their first red carpet. The two admitted that they have grown closer than before and after McCoy dubbed Elisse his “princess,” rumors are flying around that they might be dating. Maybe sparks will fly for Team McLisse soon?

JULIA BARRETTO & JOSHUA GARCIA

Julia Barretto in Michael Cinco / Makeup by Lala Flores / Hair by Mike Feliciano / Styling by Liz Uy
Joshua Garcia in Joey Espiritu / Grooming by Jay Herrera / Styling by Joey Espiritu

This new pairing will topbill Kath & Vince, the film adaptation of a viral love story that’s been trending on social media recently. The loveteam is a new experiment—Julia has been paired with Iñigo Pascual, while Joshua shared the screen with fellow PBB housemate Loisa Andalio. Julia has always strutted the red carpet alone and in pastel or neutral gowns. But this time, she donned an intriguingly beautiful beaded butterfly-inspired gown by Michael Cinco—a perfect fit to Joshua’s dapper Joey Espiritu suit. The combination: youthful, rebellious, and an experiment that might hit it off.

ELMO MAGALONA AND JANELLA SALVADOR

Elmo Magalona in Ivar Aseron / Styling by Bang Pineda / Grooming by Manuel Majarucon
Janella Salvador in Jo Rubio / Styling by Perry Tabora / Makeup by Mickey See / Hair by  John Valle

It’s Elmo’s first time at the Star Magic Ball after transferring to ABS-CBN this year. It’s also his first time to go with onscreen partner Janella. Paired recently in primetime soap Born for You, ElNella channeled an old Hollywood look with Janella’s body-hugging Jo Rubio beaded gown and Elmo’s Ivar Aseron suit with bow tie. Last year, Janella walked the carpet with Oh My G! partner Marlo Mortel. Going to the ball together sparked rumors that Janella was the reason behind Elmo’s break-up with Kapuso actress Janine Gutierrez. Janella distanced herself from the issue, but reiterated that she likes Elmo and they’ve been closer after the show. After all, they shared one of their passions: music!

RONNIE ALONTE AND SUE RAMIREZ

Sue Ramirez in Rau Ablaza / Makeup by Mark Qua / Hair by  Aries Manal / Styling by  Bon Penaranda
Ronnie Alonte in Pepsi Herrera / Grooming by RB Chanco

Its both their first time at the Star Magic Ball, but there’s noticeable closeness between Sue and #Hashtag dance group member Ronnie. They say they’re just friends and are linked to different relationships outside showbiz. But when they look at each other there is obvious chemistry! Ronnie’s ambiguous posts has also added wood to the fire, especially after an Instagram post that he will make it up to Sue at the ball. Make up for what? We don’t know yet, but the prospects look promising.

JAIRUS AQUINO AND SHARLENE SAN PEDRO

Jairus Aquino in Ryan Uson / Hair & Makeup by Ester Alia / Styling by StyleListInc.
Sharlene San Pedro in Hannah Kong / Hair & Make-up Artist by Ester Alia / Styling by StyleListInc.

Prior to their MYX VJ stints, these two have grown together in the limelight since Goin’ Bulilit. Sharlene looks sweet and all grown-up in her Hannah Kong gown while Jairus has that upbeat and quirky vibe, thanks to a Ryan Uson suit. After being paired in Nathaniel and in Wansapanataym, the two are getting intimate. The proof… numerous social media pictures together. They both denied any romance. Sharlene says she’s waiting for the right time to fall in love, while Jairus thinks he might be ready since he’s already 17. Both feel that the right opportunity might come next year. Well, they need not to rush.
