Film enthusiasts all over the country are counting the days to the much-awaited Metro Manila Film Festival this Christmas. Despite the unstoppable argument about the controversial change in the annual movie event, the MMFF committee remains firm with the new system and will stick to their chosen lineup.

Paolo Ballesteros’ award-winning film Die Beautiful directed by Jun Robles Lana is included in the so-called “Magic 8” of the annual movie festival. Produced by October Train Films and The Idea First Company, the film about a transgender woman portrayed by Paolo made him bag the Best Actor award at the 2016 Tokyo International Film Festival.

“Trisha’s friends are left with no choice but to steal her body and hold the wake in a secret location. And as Trisha is transformed to look like different celebrities, they also look back at the colorful and extraordinary life that she has led – being a son, a sister, a mother, a friend, a lover, a wife, and ultimately, a queen.”mmff4

A comic-book-stylised narrative film Saving Sally starring Rhian Ramos and Enzo Marcos is another interesting film to watch. The film filled with animation reportedly took a decade to make.mmff5

The sequel of the popular Cinemalaya film Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank starring Eugene Domingo is also one of the official entires at this year’s MMFF. The cast includes Jericho Rosales, Kean Cipriano, Cai Cortez, Khalil Ramos with Joel Torre and Eugene Domingo. With the special participation of Agot Isidro, Inigo Pascual, Ricci Chan, Hannah Ledesma. Introducing Gui Adorno and Bb. Joyce Bernal.mmff1A documentary-type film entitled Sunday Beauty Queen is an entry directed by Baby Ruth Villarama wich is based on a true stories of Filipina overseas workers.mmff2Star Magic young actors Joshua Garcia, Ronnie Alonte, and Julia Montes made it to the MMFF2016 with their kilig film entitled Vince and Kath and James. Directed by Ted Boborol the film is an adaptation of a viral online series where teenagers Vince and Kath told their love story through text messages.crfy8invuaafwvfSeklusyon is Erik Matti’s official entry at the MFF2016 starring Ronnie Alonte, Rhed Bustamante, Phoebe Walker, Elora Espano, Neil Ryan Sese, Lou Veloso, Dominique Roque, John Vic De Guzman, and JR Versales.mmff3What makes MMFF 2016 more special is because of an entry with one of the country’s timeless actresses Nora Aunor. Her film Seklusyon will star Ricky Davao, JC De Vera, Jason Abalos, Victor Neri and RJ Agustin.

Oro directed by Alvin Yapan will star one of today’s heartthrobs Joem Bascon.
