Gil Cuerva, Jennylyn Mercado Star-Crossed Lovers in GMA Network’s Fantasy Romance Series ‘My Love from the Star’

After “Full House,” “Coffee Prince,” “My Name is Kim Sam Soon,” and “Temptation of Wife,” GMA Network has once again adapted a hit Korean drama series on Philippine television. This time, it’s the beloved fantasy-romance “My Love from the Star” which starred Asian heartthrob Kim Soo Hyun and Asia’s sweetheart Jun Ji Hyun.

As early as 2014, the rumor that GMA Network will adapt the popular Koreanovela erupted on social media and netizens speculated that it’s going to be a reunion project of Marian Rivera and Alden Richards who first teamed-up in the primetime series “Carmela” (CLICK HERE FOR RELATED ARTICLE).

And then last year when it was almost confirmed that GMA Network will remake “My Love From The Star,” clamors from Aldub Nation erupted in social media asking the Kapuso Network to assign the role of Matteo Do (the adorable alien) to Alden Richards and Steffi Choi (the quirky actress) to Maine Mendoza (CLICK HERE FOR RELATED ARTICLE). But the sensational love team was given a different project, “Destined To Be Yours,” which is set to air its finale episode this Friday, May 26.

Then earlier this year, GMA Network formally announced that Rom-Com Queen Jennylyn Mercado will play the role of Steffi, the popular, beautiful and sought-after actress and endorser in the series.

In the press interview with Jennylyn during the press conference of GMA’s “My Love From The Star,” the award-winning actress admitted that she had difficulty with playing the role of Steffi.

“Ang hirap niyang gawin sa totoo lang, mahirap siyang i-portray yung role ni Steff kasi ano siya talaga e, kakaiba siyang tao e kaya medyo challenge ito para sa akin. Kailangan talagang panoorin [series], kailangan talagang pag-aralan kasi mahirap na hindi ko talaga magawa si Steffi nakakahiya sa original e,” she said.

This is actually Jennylyn’s first time to do a romantic comedy character on a primetime TV series.

As for the character of Matteo Do, the extremely intelligent yet cold extra-terrestrial being in the series, GMA Network introduces newest Kapuso actor and heartthrob Gil Cuerva who actually auditioned for the role.

Fans of the series are happy with Gil being selected for the role because of his resemblance to the original Matteo Do,  superstar Kim Soo Hyun. But what are the challenges he had to experience for having to bag the lead role on his first ever television project?

“Siguro sa start po nahirapan, siyempre natural po e lalo na baguhan po ako but I guess as time passed by nakaya naman,” he said.

Joining Jennylyn and Gil in the series which is slated to run in 13 weeks are Gabby Eigenmann, Christian Bautista, Glydel Mercado, Jackie Rice, Renz Fernandez, Spanky Manikan, Melissa Mendez, Nar Cabico and Migo Adecer. Maricris Garcia, on the other hand, interpreted “You Are My Destiny,” the official theme song of the series.

Developed by Lilybeth Rasonable and directed by Bb. Joyce Bernal, GMA Network’s “My Love from the Star” is slated to premiere this Monday, May 28, after “Mulawin vs Ravena.”
