“The Foreigner” pairs Jackie Chan with Pierce Brosnan in the action-thriller directed by Martin Campbell (“GoldenEye,” “Casino Royale”) based on the 1992 novel “The Chinaman” by Stephen Leather.
The film tells the story of Ngoc Minh Quan (Jackie Chan), a British Chinese retired Navy SEAL whose glory days are long past and is now a small business owner. His long-buried past erupts in a revenge-fuelled vendetta when his teenage daughter dies in an act of politically motivated terrorism. His relentless search to find the terrorists leads to a cat-and-mouse conflict with a British government official Hennessy (Pierce Brosnan), whose own past may hold the clues to the identities of the elusive killers.
Also starring in “The Foreigner” are Michael McElhatton, Charlie Murphy, Liu Tao, Orla Brady, Katie Leung, Manolo Cardona, Simon Kunz, Pippa Bennett-Warner, Roberta Taylor, Dermot Crowley, Rufus Jones, and Niall McNamee.
The film got a rating of 80% from Rotten Tomatoes based on 10 reviews praising Chan’s dramatic talents, Brosnan’s undeniable presence, and director Campbell’s “unfussy style.”
“The Foreigner” is set to open in US and Canada on October 13 and in the Philippines on October 18.
