Kuya Kim Kicks Off 10th Anniversary of ‘Matanglawin’ with Exciting Adventures

For a decade, Filipino children and kids-at-heart have been tuning in to “Matanglawin” to join Kim Atienza in his fun and exciting quest for knowledge.

This March, as the country’s most awarded educational program turns 10, Kuya Kim will go on full adventure mode as he reminds viewers once again why Filipino families continue to love and watch “Matanglawin.”

Kim opens the month-long celebration on Sunday (March 4) in Cebu as he explores the ocean and witness the famous and unique sardine run of Moalboal. On March 11, Kapamilya stars will test their wits and knowledge of trivia as they take on the “Matanglawin Palaisipan” and the “Matanglawin” Challenge.

The third episode ‪on March 18, meanwhile, will take us back to Kuya Kim’s first love – animals! Join him in his Tamaraw Expedition in Mindoro to see and learn more about the endangered species, along with the dedicated Tamaraw Rangers sworn to protect them.

Wrapping up the March Madness in “Matanglawin,” is Kuya Kim’s personal journey to Buscalan village to meet the last known tattoo artist of the Kalinga headhunters, Apo Whang-Od. The award-winning host bonds with the 101-year old mambabatok and her tribe on her birthday and even gets his first tattoo from her.

Every offering this month represent the evolution of the program, which began with features on animals, and then expanded to general knowledge and adventures, and now offers challenges and experiments with celebrities that show the magic and beauty of science.

Kim shared his amazement on how far the program has come, which he said was only pegged for one season.

“I am still amazed when people come up to me and say how much they’ve learned from the show, that they grew up with Kuya Kim and “Matanglawin,” he said.

Some of his most memorable experiences in the program include swimming in the Pasig River, being buried alive, and documenting his life-threatening ailments and heart procedure.

“I think it is really a blessing from God to be able to do this for so long. Credit also goes to the team. There is a lot of love and hard work put in in every episode from the research to the legwork to editing,” he continued.

The passion and sacrifice of the people behind the program have not lacked recognition from its audience and award-giving bodies. The show continues to enjoy high ratings in its Sunday morning timeslot, outliving several programs of the competition. It also continues to win in both local and international contests making it the most awarded educational program in Philippine television history.
