Filipino-Greek Student Wins DZMM Global Pinoy Singing Idol

Sixteen-year-old student Anthony Carbonel emerged as the grand winner of DZMM Global Pinoy Singing Idol (GPSI) 2018 held recently at Gazi Music Hall in Athens, Greece.

Anthony prevailed over nine other finalists and won a trophy with a $1,000 grand prize for his astounding rendition of “Writings on the Wall” by Sam Smith.

Before winning the singing tilt, Anthony dealt with self-doubt but was encouraged by the love and support of his parents. “They inspired and motivated me to go after my dream. They told me not to be afraid and use this experience to grow not only as an artist but also as a person,” he shared.

Named as first runner-up was Kleoniki Perikleous, who took home a trophy and $500, while Eunice Manigbas bagged a trophy and $300 as the second runner-up. Eunice was also The Filipino Channel’s (TFC) People’s Choice awardee and received $200.

The winners were chosen by a panel composed of ABS-CBN integrated news and current affairs head Ging Reyes, ABS-CBN Europe Ltd. Country manager Luis Bariuan, and DZMM “Usapang de Campanilla” anchor Maresciel Yao.

Aside from the grand finalists’ performances, Gerald Anderson and Morissette Amon also entertained the audience at the event. DZMM “Showbuzz” host Ahwel Paz and William de Leon hosted the program.

GPSI is annually organized by DZMM, ABS-CBN’s official AM radio arm in Mega Manila, and TFC, to discover and showcase the world-class talent of overseas Filipinos (OFs).
